When I was but a slip of a girl ( a long long time ago!) a new shop opened up in my town called Primark - everybody in my home town said it as "pree-mark" - and they still do to this day.

I moved 180 miles away and there were no Primarks near me for many many years. When one opened a couple of years ago everybody around here says it as "pry-mark". I have to keep correcting myself, otherwise everybody looks at me askance. Then I go on a visit back home and be careful not to call it the newer name. I don't talk about the shop all the time, you know, but it does crop up in conversation. :)

So what's about you Disers?

Oh...another one:

Home town says "A - DEE-das" for Adidas
Current home says "Adi - DAS"

What say you?

Not words I say a lot, however Pry-mark, and adee-das.

Me too! :thumbsup2 Was in Pree - mark in Cardiff this week though and the lady on the tannoy called it Pry - mark!

Pree-mark must be a Welsh thing then (and Scottish too!) I grew up in Swansea.:thumbsup2

Pry-Mark here (loathsome place that DW makes me go into - just soooo crowded!!) and AdEEdas as well.

I believe tho that Pree-Mark is how it's meant to be said (Irish company - that's how they say it) and Adi-Das (named after founder Adi Dassler).
So I'm saying it all wrong :lmao:

:goodvibes

:mad:Grrr that's what my husband is always telling me. I can't help how I was raised.

I ignore it anyway. As massive purchasers of said brand with three stripes, us scousers have a right to our mispronunciations ;)

:goodvibes

Pree-mark for me too. And I thought that was a "welsh" thing too :rotfl:

I live with a couple of people from Suffolk and devon and they hate it sooo much when I say it that way. It really grinds on them :)

And I'm a-dee-das too :)

I pronounce it pry-mark and my sister who lives in the same town pronounces it pree mark!! think because she has been to Ireland alot to the Pree mark over there!

Pree-mark, but my family are Scottish so maybe that's why we pronounce it that way. I live in England and everyone says Pry-mark round here.
