another pregnant, non-married celebrity

I wish these people would remember to get married first. Is it any wonder the institution of marriage is getting such bad press?

I am not trying to force my moral standards on you, I'm just expressing my opinion.
Only on "them", right?

Hmmm... The two seem to stand in stark contrast, huh?

There are plenty of married folks who have children after their married and still don't have a good marriage. I don't think it matters if it's written in paper or not. It totally depends on the two people involved.

Disney Deluxe Princess,
I wasn't trying to defend celebrities in their choices. What I always try to do is point out how celebrities are just like everyone else. Things that celebrities do have been done long before there was a word called "celebrity." I feel that people try to place the blame about a lot of things in society on celebrities. I don't hear a lot of celebrities saying "I started this trend, it's the greatest thing and everyone should do it too", yet society seems to feel that when a celebrity does something that we are also doing, the celebrity somehow created it, patented it and strongly encourages everyone else to follow suit. Look in your neighborhood, look in your school, look in your church and (oh my goodness) look in your family. You might actually see someone doing the exact same thing (but the media decided not to put their story on the front page)

:D

I've already commented on this thread, but for those of you that haven't heard, Paltrow and Martin got married this past weekend. We should not be so quick to judge others, celebrities or not. I know some of you may think that the two got married perhaps because Paltrow is pregnant, but is it really any of our business, anyway? I wish them a happy life together and I hope the baby is healthy when it arrives.

Why is it our business? Its MADE our business by the media. And if stars don't want their business exposed, than they should not be in the public eye. It comes with the territory.

Paltrow hasn't done it yet, but what really irks me about celeb who have babies (unmarried or single) is that they go talking about it in magazines, and on tv in EVERY interview, as if they are the only ones who have ever spawned. They go and on! Can't they just say, "Yeah, I had a baby, and things are going good." and leave it at that? Why do they have to be so "in your face' with it? For publicity, I guess.

As for Paltrow's shotgun wedding, I don't have much faith in this marriage. Rock stars don't usually make good husbands/fathers. I know there's always exceptions, but time will tell I guess.

Threecircles, I don't know why you are so concerned with my moral standards being imposed on "them" or "you" or anyone. Are you paranoid about your own morals? You are starting to tick me off and don't go there.

It is only your business if you make it your business.

And just how do you know this??? They may be on the road alot but I'm sure when they are home they are good fathers, just like men who travel for their jobs.

Rock stars that are good husbands and fathers: Paul McCartney: married to the same women for almost 30 years until she died, was father to her daughter from a previous marriage.
Jon Bon Jovi: married to his highschool sweetheart with 3 kids now
Tim McGraw: married to Faith Hill with 3 daughters...it's widely advertised that they travel with the family all together if possible.
I'm sure there are many many many others that I can't think of.
There are many non celebrity people who have gotten pregnant before marriage;I know several who have had pregnancies happen unexpectedly. It wasn't a rash decision or done on a whim...you know birth control isn't 100% effective.

Please. Are you serious? You're actually going to make semi-threats to someone you don't even know because they disagree with something you posted on an internet discussion board?!

Perhaps you should take a break from your PC for awhile! ::yes::

And, I'm more than secure in my morals. I'm not the one going around telling people how to live their lives. Isn't that a common theme among people who are uncomfortable with themselves? Directing attention at others? Seems you're doing a wonderful job there, Robin M.

some people have a problem with marriage in general
they think its just a piece of paper etc
my marriage is more than that to my husband & I
it is a committment made before God, our family, & friends
9 years happily married

Are my children better off because my husband and I are married. I don't know. Are they better off because they have two loving, caring, committed parents, definitely.

I'm not judging anyone else situation but in this country marriage has somehow become less significant along with religion.
And both are extremely important to me.

Yes, I agree it would be nice if people got married first before they got pregnant. Birth control isn't that hard to use, especially if you are a star and you can afford plenty of it! I guess I am too "old fashioned" anymore! It annoys me not just when stars do this, but when anyone does this, as I don't buy the "well these things DO happen" excuse. What gets me is when women who do this say, "Well we didn't want to get married, its too much of a committment." Well, what do they think having a child is? I also don't get why a woman would want to have a child with a man she doesn't even want to marry. In that case, she may as well use a sperm bank, or adopt a child.

I agree with you totally. I am so annoyed by this new "modern" society trend we have going with people getting pregnant without being married and thinking it's ok and they can raise a child just fine with one parent. Yes, one parent can technically raise a child. The question should not be can you do it but should you do it. I can try to drive with my feet but do I think it's a good idea? No. We have lost the importance of the family unit in this country and it's a damned shame!! It's becomming hip to be a single parent. And you know what? It's not that hard to use birth control properly. Yes, there is a miniscule chance to still get pregnant but all of these single parents in this country could not have been that 1% that used birth control properly and got pregnant. They were careless.

This will be my last post on this thread but I am not taking a break from my PC, and I am totally comfortable with myself. I cannot respond again to three circles as I would probably be banned if I truly spoke my mind. I've wracked my memory for a Shakespearean quote or something erudite or witty but am not coming up with anything that doesn't contain profanity, so I'll just drop it. I've stated my opinion and I stand by it.
It's just too bad after almost 4 years on these boards I have found someone I would not, as the woman said, "give a drink of water if he was on the side of the road dying of thirst." I guess everyone meets one eventually.

That's not very christian of you...

tricia.

Ok folks this isn't the debate board... that would be the appropriate place for a debate on morals.

Whether someone agrees with Robin's opinion or not, that's a pretty unfair (and totally made up) characterization of what she was saying.
