And your point is what? The kid who got hurt is NOT the kid who opened the gate.
Yes, but if the gate hadn't been opened, no one would of been hurt. Who opened the gate is irrelevant.

The point is that is isn't the fault of the dog, the dogs owner or the breed.
It is the fault of the girl who opened the gate with the intent of trespassing on private property.

I think there should be a sub-forum on this site for pit bull threads.

Some of you are sadly obsessed with them, and I'm not talking about anyone who owns one.

Why is putting a lock on your gate so offensive to people? I would hope that the lock would prevent your dog from getting lost or injured.

Why? Because I don't feel the need to lock my gate to keep people out or to keep my dog in. The fact that my property is not public property should be reason enough to keep people out. Since my dog isn't smart enough to open the gate, I feel no need to lock it. When he is smart enough to open the gate, I will think about putting a lock on the gate after he diplays his talents on the David Letterman show.

My dog is a cute american eskimo that wouldn't hurt a flea but the type of dog shouldn't matter. Trespassing is still wrong. But apparently since I have never thought of locking my gate, I am the irresponsible adult.

I love a good sparring match as much as the next person. I love it even more when my last jab remains unchallenged. :dance3:

However, let’s not lose sight of the fact that this thread isn’t the place to defend the breed of a vicious dog attack on a child who, as far as we know, personally did nothing to provoke it.

I thought so. I have two red dachshunds, but I would love to have an Isabella tan. I think they're beautiful.

I got her from a breeder in GA, she has a good webpage, shes pushing mini a litle bit bigger, I suspect some some european in her. If you ever want the site just PM me ill be happy to send it to you. her dogs seem to be bred for temprament, shes a real love.

If there hadn't been a vicious dog behind the fence, nothing would have happened, either.

The dog bit this boy. As would about 1/2 the population of dogs, if not more.

Gimme a break. Youve got to be kidding.

What if they opened the door to the house? Is that cool too? They open the door, the dog gets out and bites someone....its not their house. Its not their yard.

How about the point I already brought up?
Why is it OK for the anti-pit crowd to make it all about their position instead of just letting the topic be about the one incident? Once they make it aqbout their adenda, what is worng about offering an oposing POV?
If you were only against people making it about somethign it isn't, then you would have jumped upon those posters, and not just CR.
If it were just about posting a pro-pit POV, then why not jump on others who posted pro-pit POVs.
The above facts make it pretty clear. You aren't against anyone posting ther POV as long as it isn't coming from CR

Let's discuss this point in more depth, even though it was your point, not mine.

You say that the "anti-pit crowd" made it "all about their position". If someone starts a thread about a shark attack and others post that they are terrified of sharks, have they taken that thread off topic? Even if someone posts that they believe that sharks serve no purpose and should all be destroyed? Pro shark people could come along and say that sharks do indeed serve a purpose on earth and it would be a shame to wipe out all sharks. Both of those scenarios would be fine. However, if someone came along and posted that, on that thread, that is was the fault of the victim for swimming in the ocean when everyone knows that sharks live in the ocean, that would be wrong.

As for your other point about why CR is called out by name so often, let me ask you this....how many of the other pro-pit posters have openly stated that they believe that all pit bull attack threads are started just to "rile them"?

Today is the first time Ive ever stated that. Lets think about why.....give it a second. AH YES! Because I am called out by name on ALLLL the threads, including the ones I didnt even post on.

And why on earth are you discussing me? :offtopic:

Thanks. I'll PM you to get the website after the 3rd of next month (we need a little fingers-crossed smiley here). I'm in AL, so GA wouldn't be too bad a drive for me. How big is she though? My two range from 16-21 pounds.

Well....if you read the post I quoted by Sha Lyn, you'll see that I was answering her question.

I've never seen you called out on any thread you weren't posting on.

One thing you are most assuredly right about though is that you are not the topic here. We should all try to remember that. Maybe if we do, we can get back to discussing the real topic. Remember, the vicious attack on an innocent child by a vicious dog that just happened to be a pit bull.

I know a dog who is very protective of their home and family, and if anyone just walked in, they wouldn't do very well. Is the dog vicious? No. She sits when she's told, and as long as her owner or someone she knows is there, she's fine, but if someone were to just walk in, she'd get defensive.

I currently own an English Springer Spaniel who is a most adorable sweetheart of a dog. However, some springers are prone to "Springer Rage" which is a neurological condition and they become dangerous, biting everyone in sight, including owners. There is no way to predict the onset of this condition really, yet no one advocates destroying the breed.

Here! Here! :thumbsup2

Besides, why can't it be about me??????????:rotfl2:

I think there should be a sub-forum on this site for pit bull threads.

Some of you are sadly obsessed with them, and I'm not talking about anyone who owns one.

Just a little history about my anti-pitbull obsession. I lived on the same street for 25 years, where almost every homeowner owned at least one dog (32 dogs), the only dogs that ever attacked or bit anyone were 3 pitbulls. All three were children. One was bit by her own precious dog as she walked from her bedroom to the bathroom. The other two were walking home from school and did nothing to provoke the dogs. In both of those cases the children didn't even see the dog until it was upon them. One of them was my child, who was attacked as he entered MY yard by our next door neighbor's precious, sweet, adorable dog....the one with whom DS was quite familiar, having played with her on an almost daily basis, and considered his "best buddy."

So, yeah, call me obsessed about pitbulls being dangerous and unpredictable if you want....but those are pretty damning odds, no doubt about it.

Today is the first time Ive ever stated that. Lets think about why.....give it a second. AH YES! Because I am called out by name on ALLLL the threads, including the ones I didnt even post on.

Maybe it would be your propensity to :stir: that gets you called out on all those threads....or maybe it would be the posting of obviously biased information purported to be fact.......or maybe it would be the snarky attitude you have when some people just don't agree with you as in this response:

Haven't taken the time to read this thread, just the OP and a few replies. Most were against the dog. Just wanted to say Pit Bull Terriers and Staffordshire Terriers are my favorites! They are strong breeds that need strong, responsible owners. They aren't for everyone yet they are found on every street corner in inner cities (and quite a few suburbs). This breed has suffered at the hands of cruel, abusive and uneducated (about the breed) humans for a long time now.
