Absolutely disgusting - new poster. Disgusting.
You guys have fun. Advocating abuse that these, and many other animals suffer each and every day, is positively disgusting.

I don't get. Only veteran posters are worthy.:worship: So, anything us newbies have to offer is just disgusting.
:sad2:

After reading this entire thread, I am appalled that anyone could support such a horrid animal breed and advocate for them.

I have heard that it works wonders to soak some meat in radiator fluid and throw it over the fence of the offensive breed to radically reduce their ability to harm children or others when they decide it's time to attack.

Will that get rid of you also? You are disgusting.

it's always tragic to hear of dog bites.

I doubt anyone would disagree.

remember the little rascals? petey the pup was a pit bull. i don't recall an episode of him attacking anything.

Do you think they would show the dog attacking someone on a show? I highly doubt it. Besides, I don't think anyone is saying that EVERY single pit bull will attack, just that as a group they are more prone to do so and when they do, that attack tends to be pretty nasty.

for those of you that think a pit bulls bite is more serious than other dogs of the same size, here's a quote and link to a paper that cites studies on the subject.

"The other study reviewed by Hockey (2003) involved reports of 2132 animal bites in 1993 to animal control authorities (Palm Beach County, 1993). All bites were graded for severity from 1 Very superficial wound requiring little or no first aid, to 5 Death. There were 143 pit bull attacks comprising 8% of all bites of which 16% had a severity of 3 or above (requiring medical attention). Corresponding figures for other popular breeds are Dalmatian 24%, Rottweiler 21%, Doberman 17%, Golden Retriever 16%, Labrador Retriever 16% and German Shepherd 12%. The review noted that in comparison to other popular breeds the figure for Pit Bulls does not appear to be excessive."

The problem with this report is that there are no total attack numbers given for the other breeds. 8% of 143 is a little over 11. Not knowing how many Dalmation, Doberman, Golden, Lab, and Shepherd attacks there were makes their percentages useless. Wonder why that important fact was left out? Maybe there were far fewer attacks by those other breeds of dogs?

any dog can bite and cause serious harm. when the population of a breed increases so do the number of bites. it used to be dobermans, were there no pit bulls at the time?

Of course any dog can cause pretty serious harm, no one is disputing that. While it is logical to assume that as populationof a breed increases, so will the number of bite/attack incidents, no one can accurately determine which dog breeds are, in fact, most populous. Even the UKC, which recognizes the breed, states the following:
There has never been any viable research to define a list of America’s “most popular” or “most numerous” purebred breeds.

i believe it becomes personal b/c so many threads of dog attacks only involve pits when as i have posted, many other breeds hit the news with just as serious attacks, yet no one jumps to post that all labs must be taken out and killed and all lab owners are stupid. the fact is the pit bull population is much higher than people wish to believe and the vast majority of them are not inherently dangerous.

you're correct though that no one will change your mind, probably about most things. many people come into discussions just to have their beliefs "justified" not to learn or discuss anything. to curb dog bites, public education, mandatory owner (not dog) education and liscensing, animal control funding, and breeder regulation is needed.

again, i ask why aren't the pit bulls that serve as service dogs and therapy dogs ever reported as having "turned"? and why do police and us customs use them if they are "inherently dangerous"?

:sad2:

When you speak of poisoning a dog? Youre darn right.... and it was quite amusing to me a ONE POST person, said something so vile. It should disgust you as well...

I think you give yourself to much credit and self importance. but I think you know that too.

:offtopic:

You really do believe that these threads are started to "rile up the pit bull owner"? So you believe that all the other Dis'ers are just sitting around trying to think up ways to irritate you? :sad2:

not all the other disers. just the ones constantly bringing up pit bull attacks.

Actually, they don't. At least not in any significant numbers.

Labs and German sheperds are probably 98% of dogs used in law enforcement.

At this point: yes: Read again, please...thank you!

And youre right - it sure isnt very nice, Darlack...sure isnt.

I am simply amazed now that I am beginning to understand that that you actually do believe that this is all about you. :sad2:

Regarding that last part of your post, I am now the one confused or perhaps just not understanding. Was that a typo on my name? My Dis user name is darlak and my name is Darla. Not really undertstanding where the "ck" part is coming from.

Uhhh - yeah. Typo. Want me to fix it??? :confused3

I'm amazed at how personal this thread has become, although I don't know why I should be :rolleyes1 . Some people here are so defensive, it's not even worth having the discussion. Nothing you can say will get through to them. Personally, I think pitbulls are ugly, I can't understand why anyone would WANT to own one.

Why is this now-turned-ugle thread (surprise surprise) still allowed to be open? It's getting personal and vicious. I saw a thread speaking negatively of American Idol got locked, and yet this nonsense is allowed to remain when people can't seem to remain civil.

Yo mods...how 'bout steppin' up?

You missed CR's point. What that poster said was just vile!!!!
Yes, I missed it. Thanks! Went back and re0read it.

I already said no one should poison a dog. I miss read your original post. I thought you were commenting on the posters count. Believe me, they are people with high post counts like yours that say vile things as well.

:) Because I havent seen ONE thread in the 2 1/2 years Ive been here regarding any other dog bite NOR have I seen ONE thread previous to my adopting Charley about Pit Bull bites.

Perhaps its just a huge co-inky-dink?? Sure - we can go with that. :bitelip:

First, a disclaimer: I'm fairly certain I've not posted on a pit bull thread in recent history, for reasons I'll outline below. I've got, pardon the expression, no dog in this fight.

I don't know when you adopted Charley; I assume recently. While I admit there have been several pit bull attack threads recently, they are by no means new. I've been here going on 5 years, and I vividly remember pitbull threads going back that long. There used to be several posters on the CB who also vehemently defended pitbulls (and basically any dog for any reason), and I did used to post on those threads. And those threads are the reason why I no longer post on dog breed debate threads...I had enough of that years ago.

Anyway, my point in posting was not enter into the debate...simply to state that these dog breed debates are not new to the DIS by any stretch. :)

Differences of opinion ain't always pretty, but I haven't seen anyone being really "ugly" on either side. I would have to agree though, that this thread, as so many others like it, appears to have been effectively hi-jacked. Which I suspect, may have been the objective of some all along.
