OMG,, In 10 days the dog will go back to the owner for 25.00 .
That is just crazy.

Of course the dog was not vicious, they never are. This is just a nasty breed, and it should be outlawed. This poor boy will probably suffer for the rest of his life emotionally. I absolutely hate pit bulls.

My daughter was bit pretty bad by a pitbull in the neighborhood and animal control did nothing. My daughter had togo back to the doctor several times over this. I wish they would make owning one of these dogs more difficult and then maybe people would opt for other breeds.

Well, at the least, this story is a very good example of why you should teach your children to NEVER go into someones yard to retrieve a toy/ball. Hopefully the kid will recover quickly and the dog's owner will (should she choose to keep the dog...not sure I could after it bit somebody like that) put up a "Beware of Dog" sign.

Like most of you, I hold no love for the breed of pit bull. In this particular case, the bite/attack appears to have been atypical for a pit bull. It looks more like a regular dog bite. This boy is incredibly lucky to be alive. Can you imagine being attacked by a pit bull, bitten on the face and looking as good as that boy did. I genuinely surprised by the picture accompanying the story. I thought he would have been ripped apart. Of course, the manner of attack does confirm what many of you guys have said in previous posts, that pits go for the throat when they attack.

We have a wonderful, loving black lab. Our neighbors to the back have two children that yell at her over the fence & run back and forth, getting her to cahse them & bark. They think its fun and aren't trying to be a nuisance. I've spoken to their father repeatedly about this. When taunted & frightened, ANY dog can react poorly, lash out and bite. The mother of the child that was bitten states, "I just want the dog off the streets." Well, this dog wasn't on the streets and was inside a gate. Another child opened the gate and entered the dog's territory, where it felt safe. If it's true that the children had been taunting the dog, then I think this case really is different than the normal horror stories of pit bull attacks that all too often end in a life destroyed.

A girl opened the gate and the dog ran out to bit the boy. The attack did not occur in the dogs yard. It was on a public street.

If one particular breed didn't do such a high percentage of the biting/mauling/killing, then I'm certain there wouldn't be so much "bashing."

Honestly that's just ridiculous. Many dogs bite many maul. Not all pit bulls are bad. Yes I actually let my kids around one and you know what? They're perfectly safe and if a stranger ever approached in a threatening manner while they were with the dog the stranger would be very sorry. Pits need special care and upbringing. Most people don't have the skill needed to train one. The dog my kids are around has the proper person training it. One of my little ones stepped on the pits leg on accident and you know what she just laid there and licked him. Dogs aren't the problem the owners are. There was a child around here mauled and seriously disfigured by a black lab should labs be outlawed? All dogs can maul.

Pit bull or ShizTzu, it doesn't matter.
It is the homeowner's responsibilty to ensure that the gate could not be opened.

I would rather take my chances with a ShizTzu!

True, but think of how many dogs would have just run out to play or even lick the kids when that gate was opened. But THIS one's instinct was to attack.

As for that tired old, "Dogs aren't the problem. The owners are," line.....Well, the owners do partially share the blame. But it's not the owners whose teeth sink into your flesh, is it?
