I just got a card from my husband's brother and his family.

No "Dear So & SO" at the top.

Signed, love the "L________" family.

I send cards to their three sons for EVERY little occasion all year long, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, not to mention Christmas and Easter. I send a little money each time.

He has one brother, I think the least they could do is put our names at the top and sign their names at the bottom. Is it really too much to ask for a little personal touch to your one close relative?

Vent over. :firefight

Not at all.. If people are so busy that they can't take the time to personalize a card for a relative or close friend, don't bother to send the card at all.. Might as well be from your insurance agent..

:santa:

Really? That bothers you? I wouldn't even give that a second thought.

If the relative is so close and you keep in touch throughout the year, why would it bother you that a Christmas card isn't signed by each person? Maybe Christmas cards don't mean THAT much to them - just a small sign that they are thinking of you during the holidays. It's not a personal statement of how much they mean to you.

When I was younger and didn't have kids I wrote personal letters on each card. It took hours and hours. Now I am lucky to get cards out in the mail at all. We do photo cards so everyone can see how the kids have grown during the past year. We send them to people we don't see all the time and people we do. It's not really a social statement, it's just a card. I hope no one is angry!

I hope nobody gets annoyed with me this Christmas. I made a photo card with a dark background. I can't write on it, so none of my cards are personalized. (Our names are preprinted on there too:scared1:) I still put as much thought into them when I was making and address as when I would write the names on the top and sign on the bottom.

Gee i didnt sign all my cards...

some of them i wrote a "we miss you” message
but i was just so proud that i got them all out before the 25th
never considered people would be upset they didnt get signed
(oh i did have the nice photo card with pre-written message if that makes it better)

To me it's like an office work project to just stick labels on envelopes and send them out like that. I think it would be nicer if people sent less cards and put more thought into them. I don't go along with the "at least you got a card from them' school of thought. Like CAnn said, I can get generic cards from my insurance agent.

I could have written this same response:thumbsup2 How can a Christmas card somehow be wrong???:confused3 I am happy for that they took the time to send us one and hope others receive ours in the same fashion.

If they belong to the DIS, they're judging you.

OP, I really don't think it's a big deal.

See, I think the thought does count. Your insurance agent is sending you a card because they want to keep your business (and your money), your brother is probably sending you a card because they care about you and truly want to wish you well in the holiday season. Just a thought .......

Geez, if I took to heart all these pet peeves about Christmas cards, I wouldn't even bother sending cards to anyone. :sad2:

Good thing I don't care. ;) :santa:

And I do..:rotfl: Homeowners; car insurance; banks; etc..:santa: My late DH came from a very large family - and if all of the male members had "Love from the _____________ family" on them, I wouldn't have a clue who they were from.. LOL.. How long does it really take to write, "Love, Bill and Jane"??

I haven't managed to unearth my address book from the move so my cards haven't gotten out in the mail. At this rate I am scared to put them in the mail for fear I offend someone.

It wouldn't bother me at all. Some people are card people, some are not. I am not a card person, have never sent birthday cards to close relatives, and I don't send Christmas cards at all. Too expensive & time consuming for me. I have never thought "oh I didn't get a card from so-and-so" for any occasion, I'd rather have them save that $3 for something they want or need.

If it still bothers you then I'd just simply stop sending their kids cards (and money) for every occasion. But if the parents aren't card people they most likely won't even notice that your cards to them have stopped!

Exactly! I only send out Christmas cards half the time because I'm too freaking busy...I barely have time to buy them, let alone write a personal note and individual names on each one. :confused3

I think you should be happy to get one.

I used to feel that way. I would write the names of the recipients, making sure I had the correct spelling of the kids' names (Sara? Sarah?). I would write a little message, and sign all of our names. Now, life has gotten in the way, plus one year, I spent a fortune on expensive photo cards (where you slide in the photo), hours writing, and about half got destroyed at the post office (some were not received, some were mangled). I now have them printed up at CVS, with a message included, and our names. I guess I'm just a scrooge!

Same here! In past years if the background was light I would write a small personal message to some people, or even write something on the back.

I don't ever recall getting a personal message on any of the photo cards I receive and I never thought twice about it.

Maybe if it was a "regular" card stock card it would seem weird to me, but the photo cards I just assume aren't going to have personal messages on them.

If your brother and his wife have three sons, do you think they might be just a little bit busy? A lot of people don't even bother sending cards at all anymore. I would be grateful that your brother and his wife care enough to still go through the effort of sending cards even if it means being a little bit less personal. My other thought is that I was writing my cards out last night. For most cards I did write names at the top, but for some I did not. These days some of the families on my list are rather complicated and I was better off not listing names lest I leave in the wrong person or leave out somebody. Not sure of your situation but sometimes this is the case.
