Another OT: No wonder why I feel like crap!

We're having twins! Fraternal (<--corrected spelling) at that and I think that's why I've been having various problems with this pregnancy. I'm going to have the time of my life. I never had two infants at the same time. I was used to an infant and toddlers. Big difference. I thought I was going to have it easy, being home with one baby while the rest of the kids are in school. I was wrong!

I also have a few questions. I was thinking about getting "snipped" after giving birth. How will that affect my hormones if any? Do you think it's a good thing to do or should I just nix the idea. I don't want to anymore kids after this.

Congratulations from a fellow mother of twins. Your life is going to get a lot more interesting! Be sure to take lots of pictures. Mine are nine now and it's fun looking back at the pictures, since I don't really remember much of that time anymore.

I have fraternal twins myself, boy/girl twins. They are 8 now. They are the only children I have.

Getting "snipped" won't affect your hormones at all, since your tubes have nothing to do with hormone production. If you are getting a c-section then it is very easy for them to do it since they are already in the right area. Even if you give birth ******lly, it's easier to do it right after you give birth because all your insides are already pushed out of the way. Hope this helps!

I got snipped a few months ago after the birth of our last child. There are NO hormonal side effects at all. Don't worry about it. My OB did it while I was having the CSection. Piece of cake!

Congrats, what a blessing! I have read several posts of yours concerning parenting and it seems if anyone can handle 2 infants, you can. What are the ages or your older children? I am sure they will be so excited and helpful too.

On another note, I would love to know what kind of car you will transport all 6 kids in. We are looking for something that can fit 3 boosters and a carseat comfortably.

Congratulations!! Unless you are having a c-section, having your tubes tied is still major surgery. And after having twins I'm not so sure you would have time for the recovery other then with a c-section. I would talk to your husband, mine had his "V" when our youngest was 6 weeks old and he was fully "functioning" withing 48 hours. It is minor surgery for them medically, but "major" for their ego.

Wow!!!! Many congrats!

I had C-section and while they were in the "right" area I had my tubes tied. It was after #2 as with him I had pregnancy difficulty and with #1 I had birthing difficulties so I knew I was done.

No side affects and the best part is after recovery

"After hours entertainment" is wonderful. No worries.

As far as the other issue, have you considered an IUD? I've had one for 2 years and I LOVE it! No hormones, good for 5 years of no-worries after-hours pleasure, and you are still fertile upon removal, just in case you change your mind. ;-)

The only side affect is you may have heavier than normal periods and cramping, especially the first 6 months, but for me it's tolerable and did subside after 6 months, and very worth getting rid of the hormones, which I really didn't do well on. In any case, if it doesn't work out, you can have it removed. By the way, in the long run it's less expensive than the pill and my insurance paid for the entire thing - the doctor will charge you separately for the device and the insertion.

Congrats!! I have 5 yr fraternal girls. Also have a 12 yr old DD, 10 yr old DD and 9 yr old DS. Having twins is truly an amazing experience. I had a c-section so I had my tubal done during that. The plan otherwise was that if I didnt need the section, then DH was going to get the vasectomy instead. We both felt that it would be too much for me to have to go through that after carrying and giving birth. I was very overwhelmed and scared at the thought of twins first. I wasnt sure how that would be, but I can honestly say other than being sleep deprived for a while, it was actually easier than I expected once I got a routine down. I seem to recall having a tougher time with an infant and a toddler because they were on completely opposite schedules from one another in the first few months. If you can manage to get the twins on somewhat of a similiar schedule it isnt too bad. Good luck to you both!!

Vasectomy has not even entered my mind until it was mentioned on this thread. I don't think I'm going to ask my DH to do that because I'm the one who doesn't want anymore children. I don't know if a C-section is needed or not yet. I have an appointment next week with my new OB next week so we'll see about my options. I don't think the IUD is going to be right for me (good suggestion though) because I'm not EVER going to change my mind about not having more children. I'm done. LOL!

If he did get the "V" done while you are pregnant then you will not have to worry about it not taking and having an accident!!!! It is a good time to get the V done.

I had both sets of my twins "naturally" and I am not large framed. You might not have a c-section. Did you have a C with any of the other kids?

Neither one of us have been fixed yet but I am not planning on doing it. I feel like I have done my part! My husband, though, is not making a mad dash to the clinic either. I just started the seasonal pills that allow you to only have 4 periods a year. Better than nothing!!!

congrats from a fraternal twin herself! I LOVED/LOVE BEING A TWIN!! I love it so much that I prayed with all of my pregnancies that I would have twins, but no go.

My twin is in Atlanta but it is almost like she is 5 minutes away. We talk all of the time and take vacations together and travel to see one another. She's awesome. So is my older sister too..........she was like our second mommy, 6 years older...........I think a sibling is the greatest gift for a child, but a twin is HEAVEN!

Double Congratulations on the twins!!!
I had 2 high risk pregnancies and after that I could/should not have anymore children so the result was me being "snipped" vs. my husband. Not that he wanted more but I could not take the chance of getting pregnant. Standard birth control methods were not an option for me - the pill and shot makes my blood pressure go out of control and I really did need a permanent fix - no pun intended. I learned the following things: be sure to check with your doctor. If you have a natural childbirth and the dr has to "go in" you would still need to go under anesthesia - an extra risk. Also alot of OB's will not do it at the time of delivery - something you need to ask your dr. The understanding with my dr was if I had a c-section to do the procedure at the same time - he was willing to do this but I had friends who's Ob's would not. The chance of a tubal not taking - yes there are instances of pregnancies after tubal - are higher when done at time of birth vs. waiting 6-8 weeks postpartum. I ended up having mine done 5 wks postpartum and other than grogginess from anesthesia and some tenderness at incision sites I have had no side effects. I have had no hormonal imbalances - at least no more than I did before and let me tell you about the advantage of spontaneity no more worries!!! My only bit of advice is to make sure this is what you want. It is not something that could be reversed - chances are minimal of successful reversals vs. reversing a vasectomy higher success rate.
On a side note - people get very opinionated about doing this. I had relatives that questioned my thinking. Why I would do it so young (I was 30 at the time). What would I do if one of my children were ill and needed bone marrow and having another child could save that child, what If I changed my mind. Why you when it's so much easier, less invasive, etc. for DH - didn't you give birth it's the least he can do. etc. So you might want to choose who you tell close to you if you go ahead with it.
