Another one fired - Garrison Keillor

He retired from The Prairie Home Companion last year, though. I thought he was done with radio.

The phrasing of the statement attributed to MPR is strange and confusing. It seems odd to say they've fired him and have retained counsel to investigate the allegations.

His hair and eyebrows in the article's photo were also strange and confusing...

He was still the producer and did stuff like live tours based on the program. He was also doing short pieces distributed through MPR called The Writer's Almanac.

I'm rather curious how this works, because I was under the impression that he owned the name of the program. OK - looked it up in the USPTO database, and he personally owns all trademarks for "A Prairie Home Companion" which is probably why MPR is saying that they plan on changing the name of the program.

I think this whole sex harassment thing is turning into a bit of a witch hunt. there are some grievous incidents but pretty soon flirting will turn Into harassment. Most women have been in situations where some guy says something stupid either at work or otherwise. In the old days, you would give him the evil eye and tell him to grow up or just walk away. im retired but when I was working I had good friends of both sexes and we would do double entendres all day long and laugh hysterically at each other or if it went too far, roll our eyes. And I have actually been harassed at work and Made to feel uncomfortsble so I know the difference.

I agree with this, but on the other hand, I think it also speaks to the pervasiveness of how women have been historically viewed & valued in terms of their sexuality & attractiveness more than men. Think maybe that’s the real problem. Most of the accused have been middle aged to older men so I think there has been a slight cultural shift in that disrespectful attitude. But, it definitely still exists. Then add to that men are typically still more commonly in positions of power than women.

I don't think it's a witch hunt so much as a situation of the hunt finally catching up to the real witches.
As you said, you know what it is to feel uncomfortable at work. As do many, many, many people (both men and women). Finally, finally, finally, some of those people feel empowered enough to speak up. there are literally decades of inappropriate behavior that was swept under the rug. Now it's coming out. So of course it FEELS like "all of a sudden" this is a problem, when really, it's just that all of a sudden the problem is actually being mentioned out loud.
I haven't heard of anyone being fired for flirting. I have heard of women who are done with just rolling their eyes and walking away. And good for them.

Well yeah. I grew up in an age where I was told I had to be extremely respectful of women. I'm about the last person who would be suspected of harassing a woman at work. Still - I remember this one coworker who had this warped sense of humor, and there were a couple of times where he was joking about me harassing a specific coworker until I told him to stop it because it wasn't funny and within earshot of my manager. I remember one place I worked summer/temp and there was one guy who had this habit of telling double entendres all the time around one particular woman. They were both married, and she sort of shrugged it off.

I've actually talked about a few things that might not be "family friendly" with coworkers. Stuff like when a coworker visited a brothel in Nevada.

I try to be careful. Once I was just randomly talking about stuff on TV and I specifically said I might say something a little bit unsettling. You know - that Stephen Colbert line where he said about his name - "It French *****!" That's certainly crude, but questionable as to whether or not saying that in context is harassing.

Why should anyone be subjected to sexual jokes, double entendres and unwanted flirting at work? Work is not an appropriate place to pick up dates. I'm glad the "old days" are over.

That's not my experience "in the old days". Coworkers watched what they said. Had respect for one another. Maybe it was in your field of work but definitely not mine.

I cook for a living and have for over 30 years. To be a woman in a professional kitchen in the 80's was tough as hell. There WAS no sexual harassment policy-it was, deal with it,toots, this is how we roll.Thankfully things are better, but in any male-dominated field,it can be very rough sledding when it comes to male/female interaction.

And in the “old days” most fields were male dominated.
