Another one bites the dust.....

Funny story(at least now).
Back towards the end of summer/early fall, I come home from work to find a message on my answering machine from Kathy Conforti from DVC and that she would like me to call her back. It was about 5:00pm and all I got was her voice mail. Her voice message did not give any clue as to what department she was calling from. My guide, by the way was Michael Johnson with my purchase in 2008. Concerned about what it was about, I called every 15 minutes for an hour and a half to no avail. For the rest of the evening my mind was running wild with all sorts of scenarios of why this could be a bad call. I started calling again regularly the next morning from work and all I got was her voice mail. Again my mind was wandering as I heard rumors that Disney can change the terms of your financing or even cancel your contract based on nothing but your credit score even though mine should be fine and I never missed a payment. WHAT COULD IT BE! Finally, about 2:00pm I actually got to talk to her. I asked if this was bad news. She said, well not really. OK..., As it turned out, Michael Johnson was promoted up into a management position within DVC and that she was calling to introduce herself as my new guide. Wow, what a load off my mind!(that it was not really bad news).:) Michael, based in WDW, was a good guide in the limited amout of interaction we had and did all of the things pp had mentioned. Kathy is based at Shaumburg mall in Illinois and we had a nice 15 min chat but have not had the need yet to call on her. An add on may be in the future however.

Obviously they are sales people. Derek knows I have more than enough points, but that doesn't stop him from calling and leaving a message to welcome us every visit to WDW, or giving me the heads up on local events at the DTD store. Sometimes we just stop by the DTD to say "hi" and he always greets me with a hug. He's a truly nice person and I'm very fortunate to have him for my guide.

I agree with everything. Yeah, he's our guide, but also our friend. I don't see what the big deal is, if our guide is also a friend.

We thought the DVC CMs were very nice and professional, but I have no idea of their names. I am also unaware of any regular contact from DVC other than some promotional mailers. They should probably be a bit more assertive with us...it wouldn't take much to nudge us into another add-on.:earsboy:

I'm glad to see that Derek has so many fans :goodvibes:

I'll be honest, I adore him! He answered my questions and dealt with DH and I flip flopping for 2 years before we decided to finally buy in - Derek is GREAT. I can't think of enough nice things to say about him!

Maybe the personal attention he gives makes those of us that have him as a guide very lucky - I look forward to working with him for years to come!

Well said Alexander. We all love Disney and spend too much time on disboards, but I draw the line with naive people thinking guides are their friends as opposed to timeshare salespeople. GlenGary GlenRoss people!

I assure you I'm not naive. And I take offense to your comment.

A, b, c.

A always, b be, c closing

Always be closing!

Sorry GlenGarry Glen Ross is one of my favorite movies.

After our orginial guide retired and they replaced her, honestly I don't even remember the new one's name.

Since we have no plans to add on, I don't see the reason to know it.

im offended as a realtor:laughing:, sales people have feelings too! ;)

seriously, it's my understanding of the timeshare field that ala most traditional real estate deals, unless it's spelled out otherwise vs a special contract arrangment - people do need to remember that the guides work/are agency for the 'seller' i.e. DVC not the 'buyer'. Not to say they're not nice bunch of all-around guys & gals.:thumbsup2
