Another North Carolina question.....

We are closing on the house in 10 days. I am trying to figure out where to get a bundle package on phone/wireless internet/cable, and it seems to outrageously expensive compared to what we pay here. Also, Time Warner Cable, who is so pricey, seems to be the only one I can bundle all three with. Am I missing some companies? I called AT&T and they don't do internet just phone, I called Dish Network and they don't bundle but could do all three with two bills, Comcast said they aren't in the area, or I can transfer my Direct TV and have to get a phone provider and a wireless provider and pay three bills.

My head hurts just trying to figure out who to go with to make it simple but get good service. Any recommendations for Charlotte area providers? I'd really appreciate it.

Also, is $179 a month normal for cable, internet and phone? Maybe I just haven't had to upgrade my current services for so long I don't know what they actually run these days.

Not sure if Charlotte is similar to the Asheville area but the only provider there is AT&T and I don't like them. Horrible customer service.

I bundled my phone, internet and DirectTV and pay about $140/mth but that is with the most basic plan on everything.

I called them earlier this week and also today. Both reps gave me the same price. Can't give me the advertised special on the internet, etc.

I'm not sure if this is an option for you, or if you would even feel comfortable doing it. But we have TWC for internet and cable. It's about 110/month. All 4 of us have cell phones thru AT&T. We quickly learned we had no use whatsoever for a landline phone. So that shaved about $45 off of our utilites. But we didn't cancel til our youngest got her phone. I didn't want her to be home alone with no way of calling in the event of an emergency. She got her cell when she was 13 and we have been landline free for over 2 years. I don't miss it at all. I know it doesn't work for everyone, but it sure has worked for us.

We have Windstream- we bundled our landline, DSL internet, and Dish Network satellite (non-HD, 250 channels and HBO). I think we pay around $150/month, but we have very basic phone service (free 911 and free to receive calls, but have to pay for local outgoing calls- we only got the landline becaue we need to have it for the satellite, I believe).

For digital HD cable with all possible channels, Roadrunner internet, and landline, $179 sounds about right.

When we moved from MA to NC, it also seemed like everything in NC was more expensive than MA.

I just called Clear....anyone use them? They at least have phone and wireless together. They are $55 a month for both. Reasonable, but I've never heard of them. Anyone?

What does this include? You didn't say, so I am not sure what to compare it to. How much cable? Premium channels, how many DVRs, how many boxes, what speed of internet......there are just far too many variables to give you an answer.

I live in the Charlotte area and have Directv Total Choice Plus package with 3 DVRs and pay $84/mo with tax.

I have Time Warner Cable modem for $34/mo for high speed internet.

I have Ooma for phone service which was $199 up front and never another charge, ever.

We shop at Target for most groceries and catch weekly specials at Lowes Foods. Harris Teeter does have a much better meat selection as compared to Lowes or Target. But as you have seen, it is more expensive.

Check on Windstream. For us, Time Warner and Windstream are our only choices for bundle deals. I also agree that the price sounds right for all channels (HD), RR internet, and phone.

I agree that Harris Teeter is expensive, but if you cut coupons and watch sales, you can get great deals too! They always double coupons up to $.99 and sometimes they triple them. Also, sometimes they double coupons up to $1.98.

You plan around their specials and the coupons and stock up when things are cheap. They double coupon all the time and triple every few weeks. They also send e-vic members additional specials each week. This week we get a free half gallon of ice cream but the HT premium (better than Breyers) is already buy 2, get 3 free. That's a lot of ice cream! We also get not from concentrate OJ for $1.47.

This week, I'll be buying London broil (BOGOF), bacon (buy 2, get 3 free), Lays chips (buy 2, get 3 free), ice cream (see above), cheese (1 lb chunk, BOGOF). Can't really stock up on milk, but it's $2.47 which is a very cheap price for North Carolina.

Yes, I totally agree. I always shop at Harris Teeter, but as tar heel said I use coupons and watch their sales. You can sign up online to become a VIC member, and it does pay off! I just got back from my weekly grocery shopping. I saved over $40 using my coupons and shopping their sale items.
Also, they honor competitors coupons so there is no need to go anywhere else. I get Target coupons in the mail all of the time; Harris Teeter takes them. When a new Lowe's Foods opened down the road, they sent me coupons for $10 off $50 or more for the next four weeks. Harris Teeter honored those coupons too. When you look at the CVS, Walgreens, etc. ads on Sunday, Harris Teeter will honor their coupons. It pays off to watch sales and shop Harris Teeter, in my opinion.
BTW, they haven't done triple coupons in a few weeks now, it is about time for them to do it. Be watching!
