Another newbie question

Hello!
Just bought at SSR for 220 points. We are considering buying another 100 points in the next few months. Would we be able to buy at a different resort through Disney or would we have to buy a minimum of 150 at another resort. Are other resorts available? I didn't think they are but from reading the boards, it seems like others are purchasing points at resorts other than SSR.

Any help in clarifying this would be appreciated.

I hope that this makes sense...still really new at this!

Hi, lts862. I thought I heard VB and BCV may have one or two use years left, but that could be old info by now. If they do, I am sure they have very few points left.
If you were to add-on through Disney, the only way you would be required to buy 150 points, is if you added a different use year (new master contract required).

There are many folks here that can steer you in the right direction for purchasing resale. If you go that route, you could purchase any resort, with any use year.

Well, I've told our guide that we're interested in some more VWL points to add on. 25 would be the minimum we could buy from Disney, and that would be for cash, 50 is the least you could buy and finance it through Disney. However, right now, they don't have any points for us. When they get some, from ROFR, they sell them to members who want add-ons. The cost is $84 a point.

We're waiting and enjoying what we have for now.

So then the only way I can get 100 points at Boardwalk or beach Club is through a resale? Can I get them through a resale with Disney, and is it considered an add on if it is at another resort?

Hi, Lynn. Resale is one way. Buying through DVC is another. Even though DVC is sold out of points at BWV and BCV, they sometime acquire more points when they exercise their right of first refusal.
There is no such thing as 'resale' through Disney. Once Disney buys back points through ROFR, they just sell them as they normally would. There is no such thing as a 'used contract', if that is what you are driving at.


All additional purchases through DVC, regardless of resort, are considered an add-on. The only exception would be if you bought a new master contract of at least 150 points. The only reason you may do that is to get a different use year.
If BCV had one use year left, and it wasn't yours, you could buy a minimum of 150 points as a new master contract.

You own at SSR, so you can add on as few as 25 points at any other resort or SSR through Disney when they have those points available. Talk to your guide.

You can also look at resales and buy one of those.

An add-on thru Disney for any of the resorts would probably be your best idea if you want 100 pts or less. On a resale, the cost may be too high to make it cost-effective, since closing costs may be as much as $500. Besides, you can finance an add-on thru Disney, and there are no closing costs. I have heard that you can use the $5 magical beginnings on larger add-ons. If you are interested in the sold out resorts, tell your rep and he can put you on a waitlist if no points are now available in your use year.
