Hi everyone.

I'm asking for a coworker as I NEVER book my WDW Resort through DCL.

Anyway, 1 night at Pop Century before 4-night DCL. Both were booked through a travel agent (not Disney specialist) and the Resort was also booked through DCL (originally land & sea but then it became resort-only).

She got her booklet from DCL with her luggage tags and she also has the paid transfers from Pop - PC - Airport.

She has not gotten anything from Magical Express for MCO - POP. Would she still get that? Would she get ME tags or are the DCL tags supposed to be used? Her travel agent is telling her that the DCL Tags is what she needs to put on her suitcases when she leaves Houston and they will transfer to Pop and then to DCL two days later. Can someone please confirm this? She is so stressed out and I really don't know the answer. I thought ME and DCL Transfers were two separate things and I would have assumed that ME would have sent her separate tags for MCO - POP.

Thanks in advance.

DCL and ME tags are completely different. The ME tags will show the resort and the DCL tags will show the stateroom number. DO NOT put the DCL tags on when checking in luggage at the home airport. If there is a DCL ship scheduled to leave the day she arrives in Orlando, her luggage will be taken to the ship, not the resort. Her TA is completely wrong. If she does not get ME tags, she should retrieve her luggage from the carousel and then go to the ME counter. They will load her bags on the bus she is on.

Thank you so much! That's what I thought but her TA was swearing up and down that she had called DCL and that was their reply. It made no sense to me since I know ME and DCL transfers are separate.

If she doesn't get ME tags, she will be fine. DH recently had a conference in FL. He took their shuttle to MCO, then just went up to the ME desk and showed his resort reservation. They handled his luggage and he got on the bus. The only difference is that she would have to claim her luggage if she doesn't get her ME tags, but she will definitely be able to use ME. :)

I thought they allowed you to bring your luggage claim tickets to the counter and then they would get your luggage. Is that not the case anymore?

Did the TA or your friend actually contact ME specifically? Yes, it is a free service with a resort reservation, but it's not necessarily automatic. She needs to inform ME of her flight information for arrival at MCO. That's the only way ME knows she will need luggage tags. Otherwise, I believe it is possible to claim her bags and show up at ME with proof of a resort reservation, but they prefer to be contacted ahead.

I hope your friend and her family enjoy their land and sea vacation!

Well the TA originally told her that ME didn't even exist :confused3 Oy vey! Then I sent her a link to all the info and the TA replied that she had spoken to DCL and the Resort and that she would have to use her DCL tags (wrong). So a lot of misinformation. I told her that she herself needs to call ME.

Sounds like the TA doesn't know how to arrange it. Your friend can call ME directly, she just needs the resort reservation number. She'll be good. Depending on how close it is to her trip, they may or may not have time to send luggage tags, but will instruct her how to check her bags.

Good luck!

That is exactly what we did in the summer of 2013. Our ME tags were lost in the mail. WDW attempted to send us replacements but they didn't arrive before we left. They told us to take our baggage claim tickets to the ME counter and they would retrieve our bags. Our bags were delivered to our resort later in the day, just as if they had been tagged from home. Magic!!

Of course, that was a year and a half ago, so their policy could have changed.

IDK since DH was dropped off at MCO and didn't arrive on a flight the day he took ME to his WDW resort.

I was told that it wouldn't make a difference if he didn't have his ME arranged for the trip to the resort. He did have his ME tags for his trip home already. They don't reserve ME busses for specific people because flights are delayed all the time. They just have an idea of how many people they will be transporting each day, with an allowance for people who did not receive their information.

More importantly, it sounds like she needs to find a new & better TA.

The only downside to handling it this way is that if it takes you a while to get up to the ME counter and give them your claim tickets, it's possible that your luggage could already be out on the carousel by the time they'd get there. Which means you're open to someone accidentally (or otherwise) taking your luggage before ME does. When your luggage comes in with ME tags on them, they are pulled by ME in the back, before they go out on the carousel. YMMV.

Personally, I'd collect them myself & take them with me to the bus.

Sayhello

Actually, the TA is correct. We are doing the same (first pop century resort, then the cruise). We received just one set of tags to be used both for the resort and cruise. The tags have sail date as well as resort name.

she can call 1-407-w-disney and ask to be put through to ME. she will need her flight information and her reservation number for the POP but if she doesn't have the POP number they can usually find it for her.
they send them by UPS and they come pretty quickly. we live in canada and have had to do this several times. we have always had them within four days. just have her call herself and save all the hassle.

as to putting on the dcl tags, there were people on our cruise in october who did what your friends t.a. is telling her to do. they were really mad because their luggage did not show up at the resort, they were apparently there for two days with nothing, and customer service on the fantasy said they did not know where the luggage was. the clients said that the information for the tags should be clearer however i think as long as you read your information it pretty much says it all. customer service said that the luggage would have been taken from the airport to the terminal holding until their cruse. they said some people do this so they do not have to tend to lots of luggage when they really only need one piece before their cruise. this conversation was at about 2:00 on boarding day so i hope they eventually got their luggage. i over heard this conversation while i was waiting at customer service myself.

did you book land and sea or did you book them separately? this may make a difference, i've never booked it as land and sea.
the opp has said it was originally land and sea but changed to resort only so if i were them i would look into it further or they may be without luggage till cruise time.
just my thought.

We just have resort and cruise (no park tickets) , if thats what you mean. But both bookings were done through DCL. I also called DCL after getting the tags to confirm whether I'll need separate ME tags, and was told no.
My tags show the reservation no. , sail date and the resort date.

thats land and sea so it is different than booking both parts separate. if you book the cruise but not the room through dcl (either you or a t.a.) then you need tags for both parts of the journey. ME tags to get you to the resort and then DCL tags to get your luggage to the ship.

good to know about the land and sea though, i've often wondered.

We don't receive ME tags anymore (they no longer post them internationally) so we have to collect our luggage and take it to the bus - it's really not a hassle at all and means we can have our things with us right away instead of waiting for a few hours for our luggage to arrive.

We've always been told not to put our DCL tags on though because 1 - they could become detached/destroyed in transit (we have to pass through at least 3 airports, sometimes 4) and 2 - our luggage could go straight to the port and not our resort.
