Another lovely day in Oklahoma. . .

I had the stomach bug yesterday so wasn't on the DIS much at all yesterday. Not to be too gross but puking up soft food diet stuff isn't much fun!

Jo, you must be getting sooooo excited about your upcoming trip even with the climate changes!! And..........

:bday:. Hope you had a great day!! Ya know....Willy would have given you the ultimate breakfast!

Thanks again lovely x Hope you feel better soon.

Willy is gonna have SO much breakfast catching up to do ;)

I'm more frazzled than excited at this moment but that will change once packing is done. My brain is on shut down mode and I had to ask some friends for help working out Qantas baggage allowance which is EXACTLY the same as Virgin :sad2: I used to blame these brain farts on being blonde but I'm blaming them on old age now :teeth:

Oh man, it sucks when you're recovering from one thing and a different thing gets stacked on top of it. I know you hate to miss a day on the Dis as so many others are creeping up on your 148,119 post count.:earboy2: Hope you're feeling better in time to start enjoying the weekend with some rum.:)

So Jo, any great stories from your birthday? Cake? Ice Cream? Rum? :teeth:

We had ICE CREAM - chocolate :yay: No cake, I couldn't be bothered making one and no alcohol as by the time I was ready to have one it was too late so I went snoozing instead.

Question for our Canadian friends. I know it's a dumb question, but I'm curious. We're surrounded by French Canadian snowbirds. Every one I've talked to specifies that they are French Canadian. Do the English speaking Canadians call themselves Canadian, English Canadian or something else?

Happy Belated Birthday jevs! :bday:

Micca, where did you live in Miami? There are so many bad areas now that it a would take me forever to guess. To their credit they're trying to turn some of them around. Sadly, some areas appear hopeless.

Kitty, sorry you're having a rough time. I hope your gums heal soon. In the meantime, no worries.... eat anything you want. You just need to soak it in rum first to soften it. I'm surprised your doctor didn't suggest that. You obviously need to find a new one. :p

It's called Miami Springs, sort of next door to Hialeah. We had been married for 3 years and it was our first house. I was working out my 2 weeks notice, so DW flew to Miami to find a place to rent. She couldn't find a decent place in our price range, and she said we would be better off just buying a house. So our first house was purchased completely sight unseen by me! The house worked out great for us, just a nice unassuming little neighborhood. I have no idea about the condition of the area now, this was nearly 40 years ago.

Your comment on finding a new doc because he didn't suggest a rum soak for everything I eat made me smile. Thanks!:drinking1

Did I miss a birthday? Happy Birthday Jevs!!

Sherry, are you all moved in and ready for the big holidays coming up? :dance3:

Just Canadian. I didn't realize francophones (presumably from Quebec) referred to themselves that way. The whole "hyphenated-Canadian" thing is not really common here regardless of ethnic origin. Indo-Canadian, Afro-Canadian, Asian-Canadian, etc. :crazy2: It just doesn't resonate.

Question for the cruisers on ALDIO because cruise critic posters make me want to punch the laptop.

Is it okay to wear the same dress for both formal nights on this God forsaken cruise I'm going on? And how smart casual is general dining in the dining room? I'm trying to cut down on the packing because it's getting ridiculous.

And I want to throw the heels out and just take something like the below to wear with stupid frock on formal night as then I'd be able to wear them around the canoe and on shore. Will there be threads created about my attire on forums if I do this?

My grandparents were Canadian, they were just Canadians.

We love the Miami area, well to visit. We have thought about this as one of our areas to retire to.

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: On cruise critic!!!! I smuggle alcohol & I over tip so I am sooooo loved on that board:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

to answer your question - HECK YEAH!!!! We do Royal mostly and on casual nights we have seen everything from suits to shorts, heels to flip flops so no worries. Those sandal look perfectly fine. I don't do big heels anymore since an accident a while ago, my balance can be off on the ship. Don't want to be the floor show as I 3 Stooges myself down stairs :hyper::hyper:

Sorry I can't help with the fashion advice Jo. Left to my own designs I'd probably forego formal night and eat at the buffet. The cruises we've been on there was quite a bit of disparity in clothing on any given day/night. I think the main thing is to focus on composing an entertaining journal of your trip for the land-locked citizens of ALDIO. :teeth:

You're a brave man buying a home site unseen. 40 years ago was a different world though. I can't imagine doing that now.

I've never heard of Miami Springs. Hialeah has it's fair share of crime, but a few areas are worse.

That's odd. Maybe, they mention it here to explain why they speak little English.:confused3 I agree with you on the hyphenated nationalities. I think our country would be more united, if everyone was happy being an American period. All of our ancestors originated in a different country. No one is unique in that way.

Definitely don't worry about glamming out. After a few Celebrity cruises, we cruised on Princess for our 20th anniversary. I packed our normal cruise clothes. Talk about embarrasing. DH & I were waaaayyyyyy overdressed. We stuck out like a sore thumb. :o Everyone was commenting on my dresses. I guess some people would have loved the positive attention, but I'm not an attention seeker. I actually dreaded going out for the second formal night. Fortunately, the third formal night was Halloween, so we wore our costumes. You'll be fine wearing your sandals & the same dress twice. From what I've read, a lot of women wear the same dress both nights. Some change accessories for the second formal, but I'm sure many don't. No doubt you'll be more comfortable than I was.

If you plan to retire to Miami, be very careful about the area you choose. There are some really nice areas around the city. Unfortunately, they're also very expensive. We live across the line in Broward County. I don't think I've seen where you currently live. If you live up north, house prices may not shock you like they did us. They're outrageous for a southern state. They're at least double what a similar home in Tampa costs. Needless to say, we had to downsize to stay near (not on) the beach & close to both Miami & Ft. Lauderdale.

Traffic is horrendous in both counties. It wouldn't be too bad, if you're retired though. For this reason, were considering moving & renting our home, then returning, when we retire.

Miami/Dade & Broward Counties definitely have their attributes too. The beaches are nice, the water is beautiful, the weather is great & between the two counties you have every type of entertainment you could ever want.

It's just one of the areas we are looking yet . He also looked at St. Thomas yeah that's going to happen:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Must be regional ronandannette because here relatives closer to Quebec that speak both official languages do refer to themselves as French-Canadian. Albeit, they are also very passionate about it. In our area most new comers it seems refer to themselves proudly as Canadian. Than, it appears once they have settled, are comfortable, and don't feel threatened; speak freely of their country of origin, and at times will answer in hyphenated terms. God bless all the people of Canada!

I'm with him. I'd take St. Thomas too.:teeth:

That has been our experience with French Canadians as well. As for your other point, all I'll say it people need to get a clue.
