I have the Tamron 28-75 and can also confirm that it is f/2.8 throughout the range. I bought it to improve the low light performance of my D70 and now use it on the D300. With the D90's high ISO capabilities, you'll find that 2.8 is enough in most situations. It's rare for me to bother with getting out the 50 mm anymore. IMO, the 28-75 is a very good value. There are lenses I'd rather have, but they cost several times as much.
