Are you only allowed to exchange DVC for the Interval properties they (DVC) have selected? Or can you exchange through member services for any II property? There are a lot more total II properties (although admittedly some of lesser caliber) than just the ones on the Disney/II website.

You can only trade for the ones that DVC has selected to be part of the program. DVC states that it's to maintain the quality of the program.

I definitely want to try a trade someday and try something else. Trouble is, I have all but 29 points borrowed from 2006, and can't wait till June so we can borrow into 2007. We went all out for a Grand Villa in May. I'm happy to see the exchange being brought up more. When I have the points again, I'd like to see it go easier than what it seems to be now.

DVC can't.

II (Interval International) is an exchange club. It does not own the properties.

It can only give you what it has.

it is doesn't have the property you want. It can't give it to you.

secondly you are on a list of people who want this property. If you are at the top of this list then you get it. You get on the top by having a good property (DVC is) and requesting EARLY. you can't request 3 months before you go and accept the top property. this is generally not going to happen.

if you want something that DVC can guaranteed - then stick to the concierge collection.

FWIW,

You can also join SFX exchange for free. They have nice properties and they have to accept you (you have to tell them what you own to join). They sent me an offer in early Sept that if I gave them a prime week at BW they would give me 3 weeks (1 exchange week plus 1 bonus week).

It might be worth looking into since it is free and you have no obligation. People on the TUG board seem to like SFX.

I am curious about how we could "trade" with SFX. How can it be when we can't officially deposit it with them. We could make a reservation I guess for someone, but we could always cancel it at the last minute since we own the reservation. I wonder how SFX does it?

It is treated like a private exchange or rental. As such, the member would still have a small amount of risk.
