Another insurance question, every hear of Erie Insurance?

Thanks for all the replies everyone, sounds like a good company. I'm still checking out others to try and get the best rate. We may switch though! We're in Wisconsin, the agent I talked to also highly recommended Erie.

We had a tornado go through our WI neighborhood this summer. Many homes suffered total devastation. Our friends have Erie insurance and have had nothing but problems with them. They lost their entire home and Erie tried to undercut their losses and did not give them sufficient money to stay in a hotel or rent an apartment until their home is fixed. They are now paying a lot of out of pocket expenses in hopes of getting it back later.
When it came to CAT (catastrophy) claims Erie did not fare well here. Nor did other big name insurance carriers.
We all learned a tough lesson this summer on which companies came to aid of their insureds quickly and settled their claims fairly. :sad2:

OP here, What companies settled claims quickly? I'd be curious to know. We may change insurance companies in the future, but for now decided to stick with our original company (Allstate), they were able to match the price the other agent with Erie was quoting me. Good to know more about Erie, thanks.

Hope you don't mind me putting in my two cents. When I saw that you were from WI I just had to share our story about Erie.

West Bend Mutual - was there within hours to adjust the home down the block. When those commercials say they will be there right away they are not kidding. They have also treated their insureds fairly.

Liberty Mutual - Our neighbors had major structure damage and had to leave their home for 6 mo. Liberty is taking care of EVERYTHING for them. They didnt have to worry about anything. They had adjusters here within 24hrs of the storm and are doing an awsome job.

We have American Family and we have had for over 20 yrs and it was torture getting them to come out and adjust (took 5 days to get someone here). Then they gave us low-ball offers like $165 to replace a broken window. :headache: I can't even get glass for $165. What are you smoking??? Needless to say we are shopping around.

Another neighbor across the street has had Allstate for over 40yrs. Never made a claim and then they too had issues getting someone out to the house (lost much of their roof and back of their house) and are still have trouble getting claims to be paid fairly.

You pray you never have to use insurance. But when you do, you really want someone who will take care of you in time of need. We weren't thinking clearly after the storm and were in shock of what had just happened. If it wasn't for neighbors helping neighbors (and the REd Cross- can't say enough about them:thumbsup2) we might not have known to call the insurance company right away and which contractors to use, where to go for aid, etc. I would really have loved to have my insurance company come out right away and take care of everything so we didn't have more to worry about.

Good luck with your search.

I had Erie for years for homeowners. We had a couple of claims for the basement flooding and no issues with getting everything fixed. They did drop us after the second claim and stated it was because we have 2 fireplaces.
