Another incident in WDW

When asked why he was in WDW, Rosenhaus would only say he was meeting with a client.

In other news, Goofy has anounced he will not be participating in any future parades claiming that by meeting guests during their meals he has out-preformed his contract.

Only when Iger renegotiates his contract will Goofy return to the parade floats. Rosenhaus remarked that this move is not a slap in the face to all of Goofy's loyal fans. After all, Goofy is only worried about keeping food on the table for Max.

The news yesterday from Global (Toronto National Station) stated that a 13 year girl from a small town north of Montreal drowned in one of these pools. She had long hair and it got in the filter and held her underwater.
She was kicking and her cousin thought she was playing. Her brother cut her hair with a knife but she later died at the hospital. Apparently these pools don't have the same set up as "permament pools" The filter doesn't have a flap and has a very strong suction. I just wanted to bring this to the attention of any DISer's with these pools. Turn off the filter while the kids are swimming and watch them closely!

God Bless that sweet little boy.............Teresa :flower:

Thank you Teresa for the tip. Now I feel like an idiot because DH was telling me not to run the filter while the kids were in it and I thought it had something to do with the electricity. Honestly, I'm not stupid all the time but right now would be a moment. :guilty:

There are more people that die in Wal-Mart per year than DisneyWorld, and the rides at Wal-Mart are tame.

Unless it is the ride line going to layway the day after Thanksgiving! :rotfl2:

Ahh... Disney does have lifeguards (lots of them). They are at every resort. However the pools have posted opening and closing times. Outside that window there is no lifeguard on duty. The boy was obviously in the pool while it was closed. Which leads me to again ask where were his parents.

That is sooo untrue - many many Disney pools do not have lifeguards....any of the kiddie pools that are tucked away from the main pool (typically up a few steps or behind some landscaping) do not have lifeguards as well as numerous (pretty much all) quiet pools. And some of these pools are rather deep.

This story really hits home. My 2yr old fell in the deep end of my inlaws pool last week. We were all (7 adults, & her 3 older cousins) outside & next to the pool ,but noone was in it. Needless to write, DH & I had an adrenaline rush/fear of god panic attack, DH dove into the pool & I ran at Mach speed to the deep end, took seconds to reach her, but the longest seconds of my life. She was fine, we were soaked, our hearts racing like we were on the verge of cardiac arrest;I am still devastated (though remind myself it could've been much worse). Our new rule: Noone NEAR the pool unless an adult is IN IT.

But also..it is faster to run to the deep end than to swim to it. Maybe it was better you were out. It is also easier to see when up on the deck rather than at pool level. Thank God she was fine.

A child can easily slip under water even if they're supervised. Years ago I was at my friend's house, hanging out by the backyard pool with her 2 kids (ages 4 and 18 months) and my 4yo daughter. My friend and I were sitting on lounge chairs, facing the pool, pulled up to the very edge of the water so we could keep a close eye on the kids. We were talking when my daughter said, "Miss Dani, Gabie's in the water" - the 18 month old had slipped in and was face down at the bottom of the shallow end, and we never saw or heard her go in, even though we were *right* there! Her mom was in the water and had her out probably in 2 seconds, and the baby was fine, thank God, but it was the scariest thing ever.

Yes my DH dove in, swam across & pushed her up to surface where I had just gotten (by running)to pull her out, so we made it in similar time. The scary thing is, we didn't see her fall in (& I had been watching the whole tme, turned for a second literally), just heard a sound like a "noodle" falling into the water, turned & saw a ripple & saw her shirt under the water...not one other adult there noticed she had gone in (DH & I are paranoid parents) & the other kids around the pool didnt say a word! Needless to write, she will not be returning to my inlaws w/out me...too scary! Thanks for the well wishes, as Im sure you can tell, Im still shaken from it, Every summer you hear on the news about local drownings & you think "poor person" but never think can happen to you, it just happens in a blink! Have a safe summer! :goodvibes

Thankfully an awful tragedy has been diverted irregardless of who saved the little boy or who was to blame. My then 5 yr old sister nearly drowned at swimming lessons. The teacher was convinced if she gave me sister enough time to try and come across the deep end she'd make it. Needless to say she just kept struggling and eventually sunk, and they had to rescue her. I still remember the entire time my mom yelling for them to get her out while trying to get to the entrance of the pool, we were on the other side of a fence.

We were at one of the small pools at SSR in July 5th. My DD10 and I were in the pool, and there were 2 girls, the oldest one was maybe 8-the youngest one was 2 or 3(she has water wings on). Well, as time went by it was obvious that they were there alone. There was only a handful of people at the pool-and I was matching up kids with families. They were going back and fourth from the pool to the hot tub! I was watching those little girls-as there was no lifeguard at the pool! I think that they were there for about 2 hours and left-together alone! What were those  parents thinking??????? :confused3

According to the news reports, the child was in a kiddie pool, only 3 years old and left with his 10 year old brother. The 10 year old left him alone and when he came back the child was face down in the water. I don't think any of the kiddie pools have a lifeguard . I'm not sure at the GF if the kiddie pool is next to the larger pool or not, so I can't say if the lifeguard was even able to see him. Thank god the brother found him and someone was able to revive him in time.

Ok, don't flame me, but why would a parent leave a 3 yo with a 10 yo at a pool???? I'm sorry, but in that circumstance, the 10 yo is not responsible enough.

I find it ironic that he saved this little kid's life, but he's RUINING Javon Walker's career. Having watched Javon grow up, I feel sorry for him. He's likely going to get a nice paycheck, but nobody will ever want to deal with his agent.

People wonder about how you could leave a 3 and a 10 year old unattended. It reminds me of a time we were at Cinderella's Royal Table for dinner. There was a family there that was obviously not from the states. They let their approx. 3 year old twins run around the restaurant, scream at the top of their lungs and then they let them play by the high chairs. They would climb up the stack and lean over - if you know this restaurant, the stacked high chairs are directly over the winding staircase to enter the restaurant. The parents NEVER moved from their table, they didn't want to interrupt their meal. They got many nasty looks, but didn't care. It made me realize that people from out side the US may not have the same attitudes as we do. They may think its perfectly fine to let children run wild through a restaurant, but it is not a common occurance to us. They ruined our meal that we paid a lot of money for, but didn't care at all. Maybe the pool parents were these same exact people!!

Trust me, I have seen many parents from the states ignore thier children's rude and annoying behavior just as well. Lazy parenting knows no borders.

Yeah...he's doing the same bit here in Philadelphia as well.

It's amazing... he can save a boy from drowning while simultaneously holding two NFL players' heads under.

Hopefully, the rumors about Goofy holding out are exaggerated. The mental image of disappointed kiddies crying in their Mickey waffles is too much to bear.

I am a big Packer fan and really love Javon ,but his so called agent is really ruining our team, I think all the NFL team owners should refuse to renegotiate any deals with his clients and refuse to trade them and put an end to his reign of terror on NFL fans everywhere!!!! : :goodvibes

::yes:: ::yes:: You got my vote!! ::yes:: ::yes::

Regardless of the outcome, I'm not sure Eagles fans will ever again feel the same about T.O.

I'm probably going to get flamed here, but I've been going to neighborhood pools ALONE since I was about 8. I've also known how to swim since I was about 2 or 3. I was practically born in a swimming pool. My 5 year old stepdaughter and 8 year old stepson not only are seasoned swimmers, but they also dive off the 3 meter (the higher diving board) as well. I insisted when I met my hubbie that the children learn how to swim. They were 2 and 5 at the time. He had never thought about teaching them how to swim. We got them into group lessons and then into private lessons until they could swim the entire length of the pool (50 yards) without any problems and tread water for at least 5 minutes. My stepdaughter is now getting ready to start competitive swimming when she turns 6.

I can't imagine having a kid and not having teaching them how to swim. I would be paranoid to ever go to the lake, river, or pool if my stepkids didn't know how to swim. I realize that even good swimmers can drown under the right circumstances, but knowing how to swim can be a life-saver. The only time I ever came close to drowning was during a meet with US Diving. I slammed my head into the board during a complicated dive and passed out in the water. Both coaches, as well as a judge, jumped in to grab me. All the other times I've been in pools, by myself or with my parent, I've never come close to drowning.

I certainly don't agree with leaving a 10 year old in charge of a 4 year old, whether at home or the pool. That was just irresponsible on the parents part. When I was 8, I was perfectly fine at the pool without supervision, but I had also been swimming and diving competitively for 2 years and had been swimming for about 5. The lifeguards had given me a test and I passed with flying colors. My mom never worried about me.

I would feel very sorry for that 10 year old had their younger sibling died. What a horrible thing to live with for the rest of your life. I can't even imagine. I do wish parents would recognize their child's ability and supervise accordingly. I'm glad that the child was saved....everyone should know CPR, no matter what they do for a living. I've been taking CPR classes since age 11 and have used it twice. It's a valuable thing to know and my stepkids will be taking CPR classes as soon as they are old enough. I carry a face mask in my car and a pocket one in my purse. You just never know........

wow!!! it's a really good thing that guy was there! that poor child! glad he's ok!! it's weird they don't have lifeguards.
