Another "If, Then, When, What" thread- VDH direct, VGC Resale or neither?

I think that we settled on 100 at VGC and 150 at VDH. Yes, we are talking about doing both instead of choosing :scared:
Having both guarantees you some room at 11months. A new thing for Cali,,,split stays are now a possibility.
On another note,,,those years your not using VGC,,,as a fellow Torontoian,,,we can rent them,,,even pay in Can$ at par...lol

I'd flip it.
I think the jury is still out. Need the full experience when the weather is compliant and the slides are all in working order. I have a feeling that the family is going to vote VDH as the superior resort/pool day spot.

We all agree there is more overall “OMG we are here” vibes when we pull up to the GC vs DH but DH is awesome….. if it were surrounded by theme park in a few years then it’s going to fight for the top spot for sure…..

Vdh sweet spots to vgc.
Jan 1-5
August.

Vgc sweet spots to vdh
May and Jun
Sept and Oct.
My bday is Jan 5 and I’m going last week of august-just bought my first MK and it’s unblocked that week. Own at VGC but was able to get a studio at VDH for this trip. The point chart definitely was in our favor to do so. My family loves the grand-I love the lobby and location-but the VDH aesthetic and history really speak to me. We will see what we think after this-some resale points might be in Our future!

When staying at VDH it didn’t feel like staying at DLH at all to me, didn’t feel any history there.

VGC for park days

VDH for resort days
I don’t really get “resort days”…. we do “resort afternoons” since once you are past 3 days the cost of an extra day drops significantly. Any days we are not going to the park means that we are going to the beach (shout out to San Clemente), to Los Angeles, or any one of the other incredible things to do in Southern California.

I also think the chairs at the Grand Cal pool are incredibly comfortable. To each their own.

Don't get this one. If you love VGC - but VGC resale, even at the higher price. It's more "exclusive" a resort with fewer rooms. It's also closer to the parks.

If you don't like VGC and prefer DLH/VDH - buy VDH. That's what we did. We have a friend that owns at VGC and would never buy at VDH because it is "too far". We bought at VDH because I much prefer the feel of the resort over VGC, and to me the "long walk" is a silly argument for someone that owns at Boardwalk and is thrilled with the walk to Epcot that is essentially the same distance.

And a bit of advice to non-rope droppers at the VDH. Figure out how to get into DCA through the Pixar Pier entrance. You can't do it early entry, but later in the morning your key card gets you right into the DCA back entrance. The monorail is also an excellent option as long as you aren't in the rope drop line for it! (and it's not broken down, which it was for two days of our trip.)

According to Google maps, the very furthest point at BWV to the French Pavillon is a little bit shorter than VDH to the Esplanade….

But from the Esplanade to Main Street…. I kid… I kid….

Since I’m crowd-sourcing our California contract choices anyway- we are going to buy a fixed week at VDH to hedge a little against the devaluation if we want to sell with the restrictions. I don’t know CA patterns at all, but want to buy a week and room type that would be in demand. Do you guys think that the duo studios or the preferred view regular studios would be more popular and harder to get?

Duo studios are tiny and limit the amount of people who can stay so I personally think that limits who books them, they really are a 2 person plus infant situation (even the infant is a tight squeeze if in a travel crib). We have always visited at the busy times. Both my kids were born in Easter / Spring Break months. Beginning of April seems to be popular and end of March.

I will add Christmas is always popular too.

Perfect, thank you for your input!! I checked the GCV availability tables and for some reason all of February and all of November seem to be instantly gone at 11 months but of course I have no idea why lol.

I should add I have always done cash stays. Evidently there is a DVC busy time and a normal people busy time. Maybe Feb is the DVC busy time. But for normies when spring break and easter weekend coincide or are very close together it gets real busy.
