Another "If, Then, When, What" thread- VDH direct, VGC Resale or neither?

When staying at VDH I was complaining that I paid over $5,000 yet Best Western is much closer..
Just for reference... Best Western is 0.3 miles & Grand Cal DTD Entrance (by Starbucks) is 0.2 miles. (Trader Sams is 0.6)

VGC may not be 4* JRMarriott level; but have you stayed at that BW?

We did -- once. Once too many :( not worth the squeeze

Oh no, I've never stayed on Harbor (directly across), I've only stayed Hilton down the road, or Clementine behind harbor. The extra walk seemed worth saving the money.

Neither, honestly.

Save the money and just pay cash at Disneyland Hotel or Grand Cal.

VGC prices are so high that it takes FOREVER to break even, and VDH leaves a really bad taste in my mouth with the dues and the TAT structure.
Our contract will cost just under $2300 per year for the life of the contract (not considering due increases) We would spend more than that on studio at VGC when we go once. So for us it was worth it. I couldn't make VDH make sense though not only because I didnt like it but the TOT tax.

You want some blasphemy?

When I stay at Aulani I pay for valet parking AND daily housekeeping. But I bought OKW Direct so I could get the sparkly wristband.

Follow me for more financial tips.
This is one thing that Im super nervous about its housekeeping. For me it not the beds being made I dont want that. I am a horribly wasteful person and I use fresh towels every day. My husband says it will be fine.. he always goes in the hallways and talks to housekeeping and gets what we need and he tips them. He says it will be the same with DVC. Im hoping so.

We get new.towels everyday from housekeeping.

You can pay for full service if you want it. I always do it at Aulani, but never anywhere else.

I'm tempted to say VDH direct as it seems to offer the most options - either VDH at 11mo, or VGC at 7mo, which I know is dicey. But you'll always be able to stay somewhere at DL without having to pay the very high buy in price at VGC....
I don’t think it’s that big of a delta between VDH direct and VGC resale at the moment, depending on contract size.

Also, you absolutely have to factor in the additional dues and TOT.

We've stayed at VGC a number of times and loved it, but the cost per point is somewhat insane compared to VDH direct. We do want to stay on property.
VDH is a longer contract, but there's still substantial years on VGC. VGC costs more up front but once you start factoring in the TOT to your overall VDH price, the equation begins to look different. Think of paying all of VGC upfront with not more transient tax to pay ongoing.
Views of the main AC systems and power lines. Yes I booked a standard view.. but it really just showcased how they kind of stuck this property where they could find a little extra space. You can tell its a complete after thought.
Before the tower was constructed we booked a room in Adventure tower at the back with the same view the tower would have. I hated it. It was clever of disney to construct a DVC building on a parcel of their least desirable land that they'd otherwise have struggled to sell as a hotel. I bought another VGC contract with the money I put aside for VDH subsequently.

ahh the dreaded adventure tower. I wouldn't pony up 20k+ for adventure tower so explains why I also wont for VDH.

With Disney forward, there maybe eventually a direct backentrance to the dl side for dlh and to dca with Pixar Hotel. Those would make things much more desirable and selling point. We're years away from that. Vdh resale would be something west coast dvcers would entertain at that point.
Yes, different value proposition in 2034, but VGC will always be closer to Walt’s Park.

It felt very disconnected.
Upon arrival cons: All my stays at VGC or DLH when I walk in the lobby I feel the Disney. Often there are characters. I even have photos of my son sitting with Pluto watching TV while I checked in. Thats the Disney feeling I am addicted too. The VDH doesnt really have a lobby and we did mobile check in. Walking into the VDH it really felt like any random Hilton hotel, there was no feeling of it being Disney (this could be different for others). Also the "lobby" smelled like sewer all 5 days.

The rooms: While brand new they are already showing wear and tear. The materials are not high quality thats is why I think the wear is showing already. Shower door wouldn't stay shut as a one example. We were not in a villa so there's that. Maybe the villas are built better. We had a Duo studio which is laid out badly making it teeny tiny but there was a balcony with a pool view. We also had a standard studio. Was bigger than the duo, but the view was sub standard. Views of the main AC systems and power lines. Yes I booked a standard view.. but it really just showcased how they kind of stuck this property where they could find a little extra space. During the stay: Yes its not much farther than the DLH but after long park days you have to walk past VGC and you think "oh how I wish I were staying here so I could be at my hotel already" but no you have to keep on walking... then you make it to DLH... nope still not my hotel... ugh more walking to finally reach your destination.
I feel like if I were to own one of the two DL DVC resorts, it'd be VGC just because in the back of my mind whenever I'm walking through DTD and pass by the DTD parking lot, part of me would be like I could've just taken my car and driven home (I know you can't park in that parking lot for the park but still LOL). I like DL hotel but if I were going to walk that far it'd be tempting to just stay off property.

I kind of view VGC as like a younger BCV/BWV and you're paying a lot for that location but it's likely worth it.

Or at least to the front gate. ;)
I mean…. in theory they could build a hotel right past Critter Country….. and it could be amazingly themed and have lots of villas…. so we don’t really know what the future holds. ….Which is why I’m glad I have some direct points as a hedge.
