We are thinking of buying DVC and I have a question. We are considering 160 points at AKV, if we decide to add some points on later at a different resort, do we have two home resorts? Would we be able to book at 11 months out at either resort?

If you add on at a different resort...you will be able to book 11months out at both resorts....BUT...only with the points at each resort.
Example...say you add on 50pts at BWV. At 11months you can only use those 50 pts at BWV...or more if you borrow.
You CANNOT combine points till the 7 month window.
So if you only had 160pts at AKV...and your ressie was 200pts...you cannot use your add-on points for your AKV ressie till 7 months....
Hope that makes sense.

Your home resort is where you have your points so if you purchased say at SSR your home resorts would now be AK and SSR. It would be two separate contracts. You would be able to book at the 11 month window at your home of AK resort if you had enough AK points to cover your vaction time. Same would hold true for any resort that you have points in. If you are thinking about adding another contract, it is a little easier to have the same use month/year for both contracts. Hope I explained this ok.
OK so what is the advantage to adding on, lets say 50 points, at a resort OTHER than your home resort? I am trying to work out how many points to buy and thinking we can add on later, and a smallish contract would be easier to sell if at some point in the future we decided to sell. Or should I just buy the whole 300 (what I think we will really need) at one time?
50 pts at another resort equals 150 pts every third year with banking and borrowing. that nets you a decent vacation at that add-on resort, which you can book at the 11 month window.
it can take more work to keep your contracts straight but many find it to be a benefit.
For some, a fairly small add-on can get them 5 nights in a studio (Sun through Thurs) annually. For others, it can give a trip every three years to the add-on resort -- you bank one year's points, borrow from one year, and combined with current year points you have three times the points you bought to use for one trip. In other words, its advantages depend on the buyer.
OK, so that makes much more sense to me now. If we decide to go through Disney then and lets say we get 100-160 point contract at AKL, could we buy a 50 point add on at say WLV later on through Disney or do they maintain that minimum point requirement?

not sure about the 100 pt contracts...those may have different add-on rules.
generally, you may add on a minimum of 25 pts if you are paying cash or 50 pts if financing. there is no requirement for increments, though, so if you want 26 pts, 27 pts, 31 pts, 43 pts or 57 pts, you can buy exactly what you want...
The add-on rules are no different even if you buy in at current AKV 100 point deal. You can add 25 points or more through Disney at any resort with one caveat: there needs to be points available to buy. VWL is a sold-out resort; Disney gets points back because of foreclosures or exercise of right of first refusal when an owner goes to sell; thus ultimately you can get points but may have to waitlist to do so.
