Another hero dies from 9-11 illness

So very sad.

MrFDNY ~ will you be attending the funeral services? I know you say you didn't know her but you're all like bro/sisters. I would imagine it's really heart wrenching for you to go though. :grouphug:

I'm totally speechless as well :(

As others have asked what can a person who lives outside New York do to help? This really shouldn't be happening :( However, if the FDNY is finally stepping up, and admitting this is in the line of work, perhaps these people are finally getting the help they need? Is that hoping too much? How about writing the Mayor of the city?

I followed several of your earlier posts and I am happy to hear at least this one is being attributed to 9-11. It's mind blowing that it's taken this long and I am totally outraged and what's been going on. Where the heck is the media to cover these stories?

Do you have any idea how many have died from related illnesses? Do you have any idea on how many are sick now? When is this madness going to end? :grouphug:

How sad. The whole situation is a crying shame.

hi all,
there are many cases like this.In the past 2 years at least 5 guys or girls in the FDNY have passed all from lung problems. The city and the mayor and the senators and the congressmen all are aware of this.Maybe this one is it, this time they do care. They did the right thing and made her death line of duty.It just means her kids and husband will be taking care of by the city.As some of you remember my post about my think in april 2002,I too got very sick and i mean very sick.I was in a Coma and recieved last rights.I was in ICU for 22 days.In the end several dr.'s all wrote letters to the city saying my body had toxic posioning all from chemicals only found at ground zero(pvc's, asbestos, lead dust and a lot of others)The city left me to die alone in a hospital bed.Even went as far as to cancel my health insurance the second day of my stay in the hospital,no work,no health benifits.

Maybe this is why i care so much about the "others"It happened to me.Here i was the "FDNY"the greatest job in the world and my wife with me off payroll dying in a hospital in a coma had to take handouts of cans of food from the union and a one time check of 200 hundred dollars. This is no joke or rumor.I did recieve last rights and my family was told i would die.All my organs were in failure or shut down all of them not just one.No nyc mayor came to visit my bedside,no state sentor or congressmen were there,no media they were called but none showed up.In the end all i had was my family.I had letters from some of the best dr.s in nyc as well as the FDNY dr.s all agreed it was sept 11 that made me so sick,no other way.I still had to fight the city to get paid and even then i was rewarded 250 every 2 weeks for my time loss.On overtime i make more than that in a day.

I got better as quick as i got sick.you can't kill me off that easily, i still had more disney trips to plan :thumbsup2 Still everytime i went to headquters to go back to work i was told i was still to weak and my liver and kidneys were not working so great so to come back in a month to see.Meanwhile i was not getting paid.i begged to return to work right away i have bills and etc.I was told no.for me its not about money! If i die from this or anything else on this job and there is always a chance something could go terrible wrong on a call and i would be killed,so be it.i died doing what i loved to do and thats just help, people, animals all life in general.I want one simple promise that this city will take care of my son until he is able to do so on his own.I don't want them ending up in a nyc homless shelter cause i died and the nyc has turned thier backs on my family.THATS WHAT THIS IS ABOUT!Not us but our familys.

I thank you all for your kind words,as you can see this one topic means alot to me.there is no reason that anyone in papd, nypd, fdny, ems, or any other rescue jobs there that day should have to pay thier rent over meds,or move to fla cause they got thrown out or died cause thier rent was paid but no money was left for meds. These guys do not want bmw's they just need med's and pray thier familys will be helped out not made rich just helped a little if they too die. Here we see with this loss the city has done that.We will have to wait and see to the next one if nyc does that same and trust me as sad as it is to say thier will be another death related to the trade center.Below is another sad example however the city did the right thing by him if i remember well enough.I posted to make you all see that this just isn't the FDNY but others are sick too.Thank you all.And i just hope the city keeps this up.Have a great day.

I pray the city has opened its eyes to this finally with this case and will, from now on, do what is morally and legally the right thing to do. What a terrible shame to treat such people, any people really but especially 911 rescuers, so shabbily.

:sad2: It is sad to think that the number of people killed that day continues to rise. MRFDNY, I wanted to say thanks for posting these tragic events because I think it keeps the day in our minds and we so need to never forget.

I am part of a yearly 9/11 memorial and each year we speak the names of those who died and continue to pray for those who are affected to this day. I will add her name to our list :sad1:

MrFDNY, I am so sorry for what you yourself have gone through :( Have you been able to go back to work at all? One question I have is, doesn't the City give you any type of disability program? A program that isn't related to getting injured on the job? It's imperative to have some sort of coverage should you ever get sick or injured anywhere at all!

About the link you posted, James Zadroga left a four year old child who is now an orphan because her mother died from Cancer in late '04, was that related to exposure as well do you know?

The whole situation is awful to say the very least :( I'm so sorry you and your colleague's have to go through this sort of stuff :(

So heartbreaking. :sad2: We should honor our heroes in both life and death. I wish that more media attention was given to this because this is the type of thing that all Americans can unite on and fight to do something about. Thank you, mrFDNY, for doing your part to educate the public.

I hadn't read your own story before and now after reading the others too I am in tears. This shouldn't be happening! :( I don't understand how this can go on.

Those of you who do not live in or near NYC don't realize that 4 + years later we are all still living with this on a daily basis.

The picture of that woman and her family in the NY Daily news was heartbreaking.

Some of us do, and we do what we can to get others to remember. It is a mission some of us take very personally, one we committed to on 9/11 and one we will never give up on. What we do may be small, but we are doing it here locally and it's very dear to us.

Thank you. I cannot tell you how emotional it is when you work right by the WTC area (which I did this past year for about 5 months). It is impossible to walk past the "pit" without crying.
