Another GTY Question

Hi Everyone,

I know there are a lot of these questions asked, so sorry for asking another one.

We are finally booking our Alaskan cruise. :cool1: Now here is my questions. We are booking an 11c GTY. I looked on another website and both 11c and 11b are GTY. 11a isn't even offered. There are 7 rooms in 10 c, 1 in 10b, and none in 10a. There are a lot of rooms in the 9 category.

Would you think that we may get bumped up to a "10" room since that is the only category showing available rooms? Or do the usually bump up other people who paid more first?

I know, I know, this is all speculation and you are going to tell me that GTY means I am just guaranteed that stateroom, but I'd like to make some guesses. I can tell you all what happened once we get the room assignments.

Oh btw, we have 2 rooms for 11c gty.

There is NO logic to who gets upgraded or why. People can be upgraded whether they used a TA or booked thru DCL, whether they paid cash or booked on points, whether they booked early or late, whether they booked gty or chose a stateroom. The only thing that seems to hold is that you are more likely to be upgraded from a gty room.

Will you see pixie dust? There's no way to predict. You can't tell by looking at the availability, although that tells you that the ship is not sold out.

We were on a cruise where over 100 cabins were sold at the cat 12 (now 11C price). DCL KNEW that there were only 13 cat 12s on the ship, so many people would see at least nominal upgrades. Of course, DCL continued to sell cat 10s and 11s to people who wanted them. I've had some very nice upgrades, some OK upgrades, and many cruises where I sailed in the category I had booked. You will have a good idea when you see your cabin number on line--but even that can be changed up to the time you actually check in at the terminal. Yes, you can have an upgrade show up on line and a few days later see it disappear. That has never happened to me personally, but many people have reported it on the boards.

If you get an upgrade, there is no way to predict what level it would be. Sure, you could get a 10. You could get an 8 or 9. Or you could be in an 11. You just have to wait and see!
