We were there June 18-23 with a day added on each end at hotels. Let me start off with the resort- we LOVE it. It is SO relaxing and wonderful. We had a beautiful marsh view and a pretty well kept room. We did have some service problems though. When we first arrived, my father noticed the table in the second bedroom was unsteady. This was a concern since he needed to set up his laptop and printer to work a little each morning. We turned it over and found out the screw was extruding out the bottom by about an inch. Not a problem, I called in maintance and they said they would trip the screw. Well to make the story short, they took the table away, gave us numerous different times it would be back and we finally had it back around mid-day the next day. This would have been fine if they had told me this to begin with but we kept being called with different times that it became annoying. I did let the front desk know about my problems and I received a bouquet of mickey ballons.
We called one night for bbq utensils and they never came. When we called back to see if they were coming we got a hard time from them (something about lots of people need bbq tools). Well thats fine just don't tell me you are going to send someone over with them then not show. When we bbq two nights later, I called again (and let them know about my first experience) and they sent them over quickly. When we were done and they were cleaned, I called and had them returned so someone else could use them. (we were done with our bbq for the trip). And finally it is about time they replace the dryers. Both of our trips here we have had really REALLY squeaky dryers (to the point you didn't want to be anywhere near our building because the noise was so loud and annoying). Maintance oiled it and it worked ok for a little while but it returned. We saw another system being replaced while we were there and I have a feeling they will all need replacement soon. Ok, enough of the bad stuff (which DID NOT affect our trip in any way).
The fun: We love the pool. We loved heading over around 8:15pm and hanging out. No sun to worry about, not much of a croud. We would hang out in the pool and hot tub and just relax. We did head over two times during the day and my husband's shoulders and the top of my head show it! We had fun going down the water slide (NOTE: do not put you room keys in you husband's velco pocket if he plans on using the slide alot! Thank goodness someone found them floating in the pool
) We had a wonderful view for the fireworks although I missed the music. Doesn't seem right without the disney touch. We went to the shrimp boil which was very good and not crowded at all. We rented bikes, but not from disney since they were sold out at 11:45am Sunday morning! They gave us the number of a group that would cost us the same. They were fine bikes and I biked everyday. The ride to the beach house is not bad at all (once you get down the 180-degree turn right by the Kingsurfer.)
In Hilton Head we ate at the Old Oyster Factory (wonderful food and view), Fuddruckers, Outback and the Wreck of the Salty Dog. Every place we went had excellent service and food and we will definitely return. The only wait we had was at the Salty Dog. It was about 20 minutes (lunch) because we wanted to eat inside (VERY HOT DAY). We shopped at the Publix which had a really good selection and prices. (go to the circle near sea pines and take the first exit, it is just on the left)
Now for the two nights in hotels. The first one we stayed at the Holiday inn express right before you get to the island. It is hidden back in a shopping area and not easy to find from the road. It was ok although we have stayed at better HI expresses. We spent the last night in Savannah since we had never been. Honestly we will never go back. We enjoyed River street and the trolly tour (the orange one, sorry I can't remember the name). But the rest of it didn't impress out. I live near Williamsburg and Jamestown and grew up near Mystic and Newport RI and those put Savannah to shame (well maybe except for the food). We stayed at the Baymont Inn and Suites and it was nice and all but nothing like Hilton Head. Next time I am just spending the extra pts/cash and staying the entire time at Hilton Head.
Feel free to ask any questions!
