Another frivilous lawsuit

Guess I've got a few grocery stores I can go after now. Bet I can get plenty of vacation money.

We saw one over the holidays about the guy who's suing the makers of Doritos. Apparently the jagged edges and corners damaged his throat. I guess the same thing would happen to me if I swallowed a whole Dorito!

Does that mean I can sue the cereal companies because their cereal tears up my mouth?

What is it to these people? Do they always think the world owes them something?

BINGO! The world owes them everything!

I take it I'm not the only 1 who wants to scream DUHHHHHH to the woman's face(the 1 who filed the suit of course). The article doesn't even mention any specific injuries. So why the 30k?

As for the bag being filled with those 2 items, I see it all the time. I have not been in a grocery store in ages that actually has baggers pack the food the RIGHT WAY. I either shoo them away when i'm in the store now, or Re-pack the items b4 I leave.

Any person paying half attention to the bags when they lift them should be able to tell if it'll break b4 they get home.

What I picked-up on, was that the bag didn't break until the couple got home. They didn't notice that the bag was too heavy when they loaded their cart? It wasn't over-filled when they put in in the car or carried it in to the house? I hope the judge throws out the case.

This was visited, and sparked a heated debate, on the DISboards already.

I would caution people not to be so quick to judge, without knowing the full facts of the case. Of course when it is reported in the media, its put in a light that will get the most response--such as have been shown here.

But really, what do we know about it? What if this were an elderly couple, who had assistance getting the bags into their car? They wouldn't have known until they got home that the bag was so heavy; and elderly people tend to have more brittle bones than their younger counterparts. It is quite possible she suffered serious harm from the items falling on her leg and foot. It doesn't take much to run up a lot of medical costs; a trip to the ER, a few x-rays, some PT and you can hit 30K pretty darn fast.

Just adding some food for thought here. :)

Bednobbery, I see that no one replied to your comment so I thought that I might. You are so right about people making judgments based on media articles. I try to say that about celebrities all the time-the media is out to sell, sell, sell and make money. So of course they will sensationalize a story to get people to read it. We don't know what actually happened unless we were actually there. I'm glad that someone else feels the same way I do.

Too often, the media report things in such a way so as to grab our attention. They seem to think that's their job now instead of reporting the real news. The most important facts are left out all the time. I am not saying that people are not filing stupid lawsuits, I assure you, they are. More often than not, these suits are disposed of long before they get to a trial.

The most egregious of these situations is the McDonald's case, that everybody talks about as being representative of how out of whack our legal system is. However, when I bring this case up, it amazes me that very few of my friends know the whole story, and when they hear it, they change their minds about it.

re: Doritos guy...
I am totally going to go after some lemon growers to pay for my dental work.

You last 3 posters are right. Thanks for the reminder to keep an open mind. ;)
