Another FP question?

I have a question about the FP I can't find the answer to. I understand the concept, and used it back in 2000 on my last visit--loved it!

However, this is the first time we'll be staying at a resort and our kids will be old enough to need a park ticket. Aren't our admission tickets on our resort key cards? I really don't want my kids to be carrying a resort key card around the park with them--I just want one each for DH and me. So if we only have 2 key cards, does that mean we can only get 2 FP's? Or will the FP machines be able to figure out from our key cards how many passes we need? Or will our kids be issued admission tickets not linked to the resort key cards that they can stick in the FP machines?

TIA,

Jan

I'm pretty sure you can get their tickets without room key encoding, but even if they are encoded it isn't likely you'll have your small children carrying their park ticket/resort key, is it? If you have the passes in your possession (I still carry my 12 year old's park pass. Thing seem to go missing in kid's hands!) it won't matter if the door key is encoded into them. Is that correct?

If your kids are not old enough or mature enough to go off on their own, it is not bad for you to hold their park tickets too. You should have the children's passes/keys set up with no charging privileges and the key will then have that notation visible on the front.

You cannot tell what room the key is for by looking at it, so a lost room key isn't going to be a security problem.

As I understand it, your tickets are not on your room key unless you bought them together as a package. Most resorts, though, will encode your ticket to your room key if you present them with your tickets, though.

We did purchase a whole resort MYW package, so expect the passes to be on key cards.

And yes, I could just hold everyone's passes myself (as I do when we go to other parks), but it would be easier if I didn't have to be responsible for 5 cards, just 1 (less to lose). And if they have cards that don't have room access keyed to them or charging privileges on them, will they look different, or be labelled differntly in some way? In other words, will I be wasting time trying to figure out which one's my pass at the gate and which ones are the children's passes? Will I have to turn over all five cards to the CM at the gift shop so he can figure out which one will let me charge those sweatshirts to our room? If they're clearly marked, it's not a problem, but if they all look identical, I don't want the hassle of multiple cards, and would prefer just one in my pocket.

Am I making sense? Since I've never stayed on park before, I've never dealt with these key cards, so may be asking dumb questions to those more experienced.

When you check in you will get a separate resort id/key card for every member of the family. They will have the individual name of each person in the party printed on them. The cards will be your room key, park admission pass and can have charging privledges if you wish. You can put charging privledges on as many or as few as you like, we don't give our kids charging privledges.

You will need your resort IDs/park pass for EMH as well as for entrance to parks and for each fp. Each person will insert his/her ticket in the turnstyle and, if they are over 10, insert two fingers for the "ticket tag". You will need all cards to get fastpasses, 1 per pass. If you want to charge something you will need a card with charging privlidges, just check the names.

So yes, you will need to carry all the cards, I usually carry all of them for our family. If they are lost simply present your ID at the front desk and have then replaced.

Thank you for the responses. As long as the key cards are all clearly labelled with everyone's names, then I won't have any problem. I should have figured Disney would make it easy for me!
