Sorry but here is another one .... my ds will be 7 on our trip and HATES to dress up! Now I should be able to wrestle him into a shirt and tie for dinner, he will want it off as soon as possible. So my question is, is it ok to change after the formal dinner to be in regular clothes for the evening show? tia!

More than fine.....in fact I saw people bring their kids in pjs to the late show.....

We let our kids eat in the Oceaneer Lab on formal night. They wanted to stay with their friends instead of sitting through the long dinner. The way I see it, it's their vacation too so we let them choose. They are eating the same food anyway.

I have a question about formal night too. Do women wear long or knee length dresses? How fancy have you seen the dresses?:confused3

I have seen such a wide variety. I would say most people say that a formal dress is floor length but some of the prettiest outfits I saw on the last cruise were knee length. In fact my dress for our formal night on our next cruise is knee length. As far a how dressy you see people decked out to the nines and then some that wear a simple black dress with heals...and then you see some in less dressy stuff than that. It's all in the eye of the beholder.

We used to skip formal nights on other cruise lines; none of us felt like dressing up but on our 1st DCL cruise both boys wanted to get dressed up, ages 9 & 6 then. Luckily there's a suit warehouse/discount store that was extremely reasonable.
Well, the time comes for dinner and ds9 is squeezing the shoulders of the jacket, pulling on the neck of the shirt, frowns in the mirror and says he can't leave our room looking like this.
I kind of made him since it was time to go like right now to get to dinner. He sees so many other men and boys, handsome as can be, some in tuxes, and loves it. Fast fwd 4.5 years, we've replaced that suit and will probably need another for Oct since last year the sleeves were looking kind of short. I still ask if he wants to skip formal night before buying another suit and he says NO Way! I love it! DCL has forever changed him. :lmao:
Is he strange or what?

My whole point is, your son may just surprise you. I wouldn't spend a ton though. The place near us is around $50 for a boys' suit.

Someone should start a Pay it Forward Formal wear thread for those parents who can exchange formal clothes that their sons or daughters have outgrown.

Several years ago on our thread a mom gave me a tux her son had outgrown for my GS. I passed it on a year later to another mom for her son.

Just my thoughts...

We usually get dressed just for dinner unless (I believe it's not done anymore) we go to the Golden Mickey's show because they have a red carpet and do interviews.

DS is allowed to get changed right away. We're just as happy to put on shorts as he is.

Thanks all ... I know b/c it is DISNEY he will do what he was told and wear the tie but I know, half way through dinner he will be tugging on it and complaining - well I would too, thank goodness woman don't wear ties (well, typically!)
I live in Ontario and I don't think I have ever seen a boy's suit for $50 but we will be in Myrtle Beach in 3 weeks, maybe I will find something there!

Sadly, Golden Mickeys has been replaced by the new villians show. I've heard that Twice Charmed is now the show on formal night.

If you're driving, you could stop by. It's about 5 miles east of Philiadelphia's I-95 in Cherry Hill, NJ. It's called Syms. Tuxes were $50 for boys too but dh wouldn't go for it since he wasn't wearing one also and felt they should all 3 be consistent. PM me if you want more info. :goodvibes

Would they do formal night on the same night as Golden Mickey's on the 7 night Wonder next year? Any thoughts?
