Hi,
Posted this on the cooking board, but this board get the MOST exposure......I always make my brisket with ketchup and lipton onion soup mix (and water of course)---it's delicious, but I'd like to try one with just a "Brown type " gravy.l Any idea or recipe.
Thanks

Hi,

Here's my DD's recipe (its a little different, but good) -

about 4-1/2 brisket
1 cup orange juice
1 cup ketchup
1 cup applesauce
2 pkgs Lipton onion soup mix diluted with 1 cup water

Mix all together and roast until done.

I use instant paerve beef flavored soup mix and mix it strong with boiling water (about 4 t. per 2 cups of boiling water) and over the meat with it. Simmer the meat for about two hours. If I have any instant onion or mushroom flavor instant soup, I mix some of that two. About 2 batches of beef to 1/2 batch onion and 1/2 batch mushroom.

Make sure you have some onions and carrots in the pan also. I make sure they are in the pan when I sear the meat.

Yum! Brisket!

Easy..leave out the ketchup, and add another package of Onion soup mix, or use some beef bouillon.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was thinking of only the onion soup mix/beef broth....I also found one on epicouriuos(?)...that was some kind of "grandmas brisket" that looked similar with cooked onions added to a wine/broth mixture...then blended up at the end to make the gravy thicker!!! Think I'll experiment before the holiday!
