Another flu question - symptoms? What are they?

I have a sore throat - swollen glands feeling; my nose is very congested feeling; and I'm tired and not sleeping well and some of my body limbs feel like they weigh 10 pounds a piece. Please tell me these are NOT flu symptoms and just maybe a cold....PLEASE!!!!!

Headache! If you have that and the fever you have the flu for sure.

Now you could have not a seriuos case of the flu, that is possible too. Body aches are a flu symptom.
I think you need to have the fever at least to be considered to have the flu.

DD had the flu and we all had colds. I can't believe we avoided it. Although I wash my hands every time I touched her or something she touched.

it could be a cold. Many of the symptoms are similar.

The Flu is usually accompanied by a severe headache, extreme exhaustion, and a high temperature.

DH also had the headache, fever, chills. Neither DD or I got sick, thank goodness!

Just got home from the doctor and lab to see if my child has the flu. Doctor thought it certainly looked like the flu, but it is good to have the verification. If it is, we all get treated with the medication. And yes, we did have flu shots.... He has the fever, chills, dizzy, aches and headache.

DS officially tested positive for Influenza A. He's had a fairly
high fever, glassy eyes, sore throat, lethargy, aching, croupy
coughing and lots of nose blowing. He got a nasal mist vaccine
AND is now taking Tamaflu. I haven't seen him this sick since
he was really little. Many of his friends have it too.
It's not pretty!

Both of my boys (ages 12 and 13) have the flu right now. When I called them in sick on Tuesday, the secretary told me that on Monday they had 175 kids out with the flu! She expected the numbers to be the same if not higher for Wednesday & Thursday!

So far, so good in that neither DH or I have caught it from them!

My child's test said this virus is NOT the flu. It seems exactly like when he did have the flu last year. This "flu like" virus is going around along with the flu....this one lasts a week the doctor's office said. He is really sick...the fever and chills are scary. It will go up 2 full degrees in just 30 minutes.

Is anyone afraid of using Tylenol or Ibubrofin for long periods? What advice are you all getting from doctors on OTC fever medicines...alternating, only using one specific one. Of course, NO ASPIRIN. The tylenol just isn't working for hm, although his doctor recommended that over ibuprofin.

Since this one isn't the flu, I guess he could still pick that up later and miss another week. He feels so bad that when I said his Christmas break had already started since he won't go back this week, he couldn't even smile.

I wonder of that is what my 12yodd had? She never got swabbed to see if it was the flu for certain.

I gave her Motrin. 2 tabs (She weighs about 100) about every 5hrs for the 1st 3 days. Then it seemed to not work and I gave her tylenol.

I remember having to piggy back Tylenol and Motrin after my son had a febrile seizure at 15 mos old.

Don't do this unless your doc tells you too....it goes by age/weight. It wouldn't be for an extended period of time, so don't worry about that....you've got to keep the fever down, so if it's raging, this is how they tell you do keep it down.

My 17 month old niece has had the croup since saturday and has yoyoing back and forth, feeling better with no fever and then all of a sudden it'll spike to 104. My sister is very concerned that she has a secondary infection.

Lots of different viruses going around for sure.
