We are going on the Wonder 4 Night with our 2-1/2 year DD. She is almost potty trained. She likes to play with older children and I was wondering how lenient they are with their potty training mandate for her to be able to play with the 3-4 year olds at the Oceaneer's Club?
She wears pull ups and rarely has "accidents", but... What if she does? Do they throw her overboard? What happens to the 3-4 Year Olds that have accidents?

They are very strict about being potty-trained. No pull-ups are allowed. What you can do is take her during Family Time and play with her in the club. Or you might want to ask about staying with her during the special events or other times. How close is she to being 3yr on your cruise. We went on our first cruise a week after DD turned 3 and just a couple of days after she "got" potty trained. No accidents here. I think they remind them between activities.

Our 4YO DD had an accident last November on the 4 day Wonder, while we were at Palo. The beeper went off and Mom ran down to the OC and took care of the situation. I ordered another appetizer. I don't know if they will let a sub-3YO into the club, but it is worth a try. You've got nothing to lose but the Flounder's Reef fees!!!!

Unless you DD will be 3 years old when you board, you will not be able to use the clubs regardless of potty training status, except during family time. It doesn't matter if your DD is potty trained to enjoy family time. If she will be 3, they are very strict about potty training. Your DD will have to be able to do the entire potty thing by herself, and no Pull Ups allowed, underwear only. The counselors are not allowed to assist in any way. If your DD isn't fully potty trained or under 3 will be in Flounders if you need to leave her unsupervised. They do ask on the questionaire if your child is potty trained, so they will take them to the potty in Flounders.

Sounds like our experience was a bit different than jel0511's. :)

We were on the Wonder last June 2002. DS was 4 and went to the kid's club no problem. DD was 2 (she turned 3 at the end of August, so she was 2 months shy of her 3rd b-day). The counselor's put her in the club with no problem at all. When we registered her, they highlighted across the top of her form "under 3 - trial" to show that she was going to be on "trial" status to see how she did. She did fine and they had no problem with her being there. Didn't seem to be an unusual happening at all. I was prepared to have to cajole them with "her brother will be with her, she has been in pre-school all year, etc." but none of that was necessary. They were, however, very strict with the potty-training thing. No pull-ups allowed. They expect the children to be able to take care of all their own bathroom needs. Luckily, DD did fine and enjoyed her time with the kids club.

Enjoy your cruise!

I was wondering if they ever let under 3 and potty trained into OC. I am trying to talk my sister into joining us next January on the Magic. Her DS will be 5 and DD will be 2 (about 4 months shy of 3rd Bday). And my DS is 4. She is afraid that DD will want to go with the boys since she is always trying to keep up with them at home.

So I have two questions. If she is potty trained (she almost is now at almost 2 -- again keeping up with the boys!) and being that January may not be full capacity of kids in the Oceaneer's Club, any chance they will give her a trial if she is 4 months shy of birthday.

And second question, if she can't go to Oceaneer's Club, how is Flounders for a child that close to 3? Would she be bored? As far as I can tell, she always seems to be one step ahead of where our boys were at the same age.

Thanks for the help! I would LOVE to have my sister's family come. I want to give her more info. about her options for DD.

Our daughter was not completely potty-trained when we went a few weeks ago. I talked to one of the leaders in the Oceaneer Club and she wrote "Pullups-OK" with her signature on our information form.

Since I'm reading so much about how there are NEVER exceptions to lots of DCL rules, and yet there are always stories of how people get around them, I'm inclined to believe that it's all a matter of talking to the right CM.

We took our daughter to Flounder's during one of the family sessions and she enjoyed it, but I know she would've been bored silly if we'd left her there for a longer period of time. Flounder's is set up for babies and toddlers; most three-year-olds I know would enjoy the Oceaneer Club much more.
