I guess I have been lucky with not too many issues with ebay....but last week I purchased a lighthouse for my DH and it said lighted but the light cord was not in box, contacted seller and she said I thougth it was there I had one, I mailed out a bunch like 5 at work, I will check into it.... well my question how long should that take and when do I send another email to her and if she does not send light cord or answer what is the next thing I should do and how long do I have to do it... I have never had this issue before? Thanks for any help Carol:goodvibes

Buying through Ebay and using Paypal to pay gives you 45 days to file a claim with Paypal. If she doesn't respond to you in a few days I would go ahead and file a claim with Paypal to get a refund. "Item not as described"

Thank you for answering...I have never had an issue and it is only a light cord I hate to be a complainer...will give her a few days and then I guess contact Pay Pal...do I return item do I have to pay for that or how does the process work... Carol

I can't help you with the process, but as far as what *I* would do is give the seller 3 business days. If you haven't heard from them by then, I'd email back. If I don't have some kind of resolution within 10 days (even a tracking number showing something has been sent), THEN I'd file with pay pal.

Thank you that is what I was wanting to know...I do not want to be a pain...I got the package last week and emailed right away and the seller answered right away saying she thought it was in there and I emailed back saying I double checked and then have not heard back, figure I will give her the weekend and a day or so and then as you suggested email her back and take it from there... Thank you all so much, I am clueless about all this and can use the input...:goodvibes

In my opinion, that's too fast to be filing anything. You have to remember that on Ebay right now, even filing a complaint has negative effects on a sellers account. You need to also take in to account that Ebay's message system is not all that reliable. Just because you didn't get a reply doesn't mean the seller didn't actually send one.

Also, not everyone is on their computer 24/7. You may have a part time seller who has other things going on in their life besides Ebay.

I would wait a couple of days and if you don't hear anything back from the seller, contact her again. You have plenty of time to file a complaint. Give the seller the benefit of the doubt and the chance to make things right before going that route.

Oh no I agree, I do not want to rush to file and spoil her rating...I will try to work with her and wait...I just wanted to know how long to wait did not know my rights and did not want to let them pass . I want to give her time to find the light cord and mail it to me... I do really appreciate the replies as I do want to do the right thing... :goodvibes

I wouldn't worry about spoiling her rating. The fact is that she sold you something and did not include everythign as described. Why should she have a perfect rating if she can't bother to check what she sent before dropping it off at the post office. You as a buyer are now inconvienced by her mistake. Ratings are there for a reason. For all you know she regularly forgets to put things together when shipping or ships the wrong items. If you were a buyer wouldn't you want to know that before bidding? If she truely is a good seller and just made an honest mistake then one negative rating isn't going to hurt her in the long run. If she starts getting a string of negatives then maybe she shouldn't be selling in the first place. Be honest when you rate a seller but don't not post a negative comment just because you are afraid of ruining their rating.

I would definitely contact her again in a couple of days if you don't hear back. I'd give at least 10 days before I filed anything with eBay. Are you able to use a different cord? ie can you go buy one? If so maybe price them out and give her the option of simply refunding you that amount of money. Good luck!

Is it something that can be easily purchased?? Maybe at a Hobby Lobby or Michael's, the light that is.

If you can get a replacement light for relatively cheap, I would just ask for a partial refund to cover the cost of it. It could be cheaper than shipping the item back to the seller.

If you like the lighthouse, and don't want to send it back, and you can't find someplace to get a light at, ask for 30-40% back. If you do file a claim, you will have to send back the item, and shipping is on you. Don't forget to add tracking and insurance if there is a higher value to it. After the item is received (you'll enter the tracking number into the claim), Ebay will give you a refund. And don't just ship it priority flat rate box, sometimes that will cost you a lot more than shipping it parcel post. Walmart sells a variety of boxes for 50 cents.

I had an issue where I bought a Pal Mickey from an ebayer and it didn't have a piece that was listed in the description. I contacted the seller and he was going to send one out. I waited 2 weeks before emailing him again and after that second contact, he sent it out. I'd wait 2 weeks but IMO, if they're a good seller (i.e. someone I'd do business with again), they'll send you a quick note to let you know they put it in the mail so you don't have to worry about it.

Edit: I re-read your post and realize it seems the seller hasn't told you if she's even going to send a replacement. If she's still "looking into it" and it's more than a couple of days after your request, I'd contact her again today. My above recommendation is for a seller who states they are mailing the item to you.

Ok I am getting some of this and never looked at it that way about people wanting to know...I will wait a few days and email her again and then we will see... I guess I have to look for a light cord, it has to fit in the light house with a clip I guess.... I sure don't want to pay to ship it back when I did nothing wrong but buy something in good faith, now I have to shop for a light and hope I get the money back from her... geez I hope she finds the cord but I would have thought she should have found it over the weekend and there were a few days last week? I have never had one problem, except for slow shipping and a few slow email answerer(that was this year too) maybe things are deteriorating now at ebay? I have to admit I have not bought in a few years... I do so really appreciate everyone responses and help, I would not have known any of this.. I will let you know what happens.. Carol:goodvibes

Ok so I sent a follow up email this morning and she answered that she did not find the light cord but was going to Michaels to look, I told her fine and then she emailed back that she ordered one on Amazon and it was shipping to me... so hopefully that will come but she did answer right away today... I just didn't want her to feel like I was harassing her... so things should turn out ok...
You all have been so helpful and made me feel better about what I should do...eased my mind...not that I guess it was a big deal but you still answered anyway....and I thank you....Carol:goodvibes
