I recently bit the bullet and tried the ebay thing for some extra Disney money. I have a couple of things going and I have to say I am surprised. My question is about shipping. I put a brand new pack n play up for auction and stated that the buyer would pay all shipping charges. I thought the most shipping could be was about $20.00. I am now getting quotes from $50.00-$100.00. What am I doing wrong? I'm afraid when the buyer sees this they won't pay. My husband says the only way we can ever go to Disney again is if I some how come up with the money. He is not a Disney fan. Could someone please help me? What can I do to get cheaper shipping rates?

COLLEEN
Thanks in advance

Hi Colleen,
How much does the packnplay weigh? USPS Parcel Post is probably the cheapest way to send it. Are you getting quotes from shipping stores? If you can find a box to fit it, I'd do it yourself.

I haven't sold anything that large yet, but I've been doing eBay since the end of December, selling outgrown clothes, toys, books, puzzles, and odds and ends, and have made over $800!! It's a fun way to save for Disney!

Good luck!

I think there is a way to end your auction if you realized you made a mistake. I have done that before even when I had bids on the item I was selling already. There is no penalty nor will you get any negative feedback from those who have made a bid. Here is what I went by from Ebays website in the help section. I hope this explains it wel: Ending Your Listing Early

Sometimes something goes wrong and you can't complete your listing as planned. If needed, you can choose to end your listing before the scheduled date. If there are bids on your item, you can cancel them.

Reasons for ending listings early include:
The item is no longer available for sale.
There was an error in the starting price or reserve amount.
There was an error in the listing.
The item was lost or broken.
To end your listing early, follow these steps:
Type your item number into the Ending Your Listing Early form. (You can get this number on your listing, on your confirmation email, or on your My eBay page.)
If there are bids on your item, choose between:
Cancel bids and end listing early
or
Sell item to high bidder(s) and end listing early
If your item has no bids, you'll skip this step.
Choose the reason you're ending your listing early.
Now your listing will end and will no longer be displayed on eBay. If there were bidders, they will be emailed that their bid was canceled and the listing ended early.
Note: Sellers are not permitted to cancel bids and end listings early in order to avoid selling an item that did not meet the desired sale price. This is considered to be reserve fee circumvention. Although there are legitimate reasons for ending a listing early, abuse of this option will be investigated.
If you have not found the information you are looking for, please ask a question.

Thanks for the replies. The item only weighs 21 lbs. I was thinking of ending the auction but it clearly states that the buyer would have to pay all shipping charges. I just thought there might be a cheaper way to do this. I have checked other pack n play auctions and they all seem to have shipping under $20.00. I have emailed a few to ask but I haven't heard anything.

First thing is find a box. Do not pay a company to box it as that will cost alot. If you can find a box then use either USPS Parcel Post or UPS Ground.

I have found that USPS and UPS are the best way to ship. For larger items we have UPS come to the house at no additional charge and pick up the item.

Sometimes though shipping can be extreme no matter who you use. I had an auction for a Boppy pillow and as light as they are I couldn't get shipping to be under $8 no matter who I went through. Another thing that I found out is that if you are on the east coast the further you go west the more shipping gets. Someone contacted me about the shipping from Arizona and it was like $11. It's a freakin' pillow!!!!! DH just wanted it out of the house so he upped the price of the pillow a little and ate the cost on shipping.

Good Luck!
Melissa

Thank you so much for all your replies. I finally figured out what I was doing wrong.
