Another Disney Store validation....

I was in the Disney store today, and saw the sign outside the store announcing their closing :( CM confirmed they are closing and said our closest will be in Allentown Pa :( I guess that means more trips to WDW or doing my shopping online

I was ok with the closings because we had two stores within a decent driving distance. One was on the list to close and the other was on the safe list. Well it ain't safe. BOTH are closing so now I have no clue where to find one.

Pam at the Mall of Georgia said, "No, we're not closing. Gwinnett is closing, but we're staying open."

YAHOO! :cool1:

To which I said, "What about Discover Mills? Do you know if they are staying open?"

"Yes. They are staying open. They just opened. Gwinnett is the only one in the state of Georgia that is closing."

So my friend was right after all! Thanks Dawny!!!

I am really sad for the CMs at the Gwinnett store, but maybe they can transfer over to one of the other stores....now, if they would open one up closer to Dawsonville, I could become a CAST MEMBER!!!!!

For those in Western NY the store at the Walden Galleria is closing. The CM told us yesterday they had about 6-8 weeks left.

Is there a time frame mentioned for the closings? I was really looking forward to going to the one at Rockvale Outlets because it only opened recently and I don't know if I'll get a chance to go to it now.:sad1:

I just called The Disney Store in the Willowbrook Mall in Wayne NJ and the person I spoke to told me they are staying open. I hope it's true.

The guy I spoke to (at the Independence Center in MO) said that they have not really been given a date yet. He said there are rumors that it could be anywhere from 6 weeks from now through the end of summer.

thanks, hopefully it will be a little while before it closes. I'm in the middle of baseball season and can't get there until June.

I went to Summit Mall today (Akron, OH), and they had a couple big signs out saying they were closing,

Kind of expected them to be one of the ones that would close since that's a Simon Mall... but we have another one down in Belden Village, and really hoping that one stays open!!

I just called Castleton Square in Indy and was told they would NOT be closing, though they are on the list to close. She said the only one closing(in Indy??) is the one at Circle Centre. Man almighty, I hope she knows what she's talking about!! I'm very excited....:dance3:

I am heading to Indy next weekend for a little Mother's Day shopping and was planning on hitting TDS in Greenwood. I will be sure to ask about the closing while I'm there (if no signs are up).

I was at our local mall today & unfortunately saw the posted sign stating that the store will be closing... The stupid sign states that our guests will still be able to use disneystore.com :confused3 I don't WANT to use disney.com!!!! ok.....rant over!

Any idea when the one at the Walden Galleria in Buffalo is closing.. We just had one in Buffalo close in March. This is getting pretty bad when Disney stores are closing ever other month. We will only have one left in all of Western NY.. This STINKS!!!!

I spoke to a very nice CM at the Disney store in the Poughkeepsie Galleria mall today. She confirmed that the store is on the list of stores to be closed, though she said that the list is tentative, so it isn't 100% certain that the store will go. She also said that the only nearby stores that are supposed to stay open are the Danbury CT store, the Woodbury Commons store, and the store in the Pallisaides Mall. All three of them are a much longer drive for me, so I'm kind of hoping that the Poughkeepsie store stays open. She didn't have any idea when the closings might take place.

I am so sad....:sad2: The Poughkeepsie Galleria is where I shop all the time!

I was in the store again on Saturday the 3rd, and they said they got the official word. The don't know an exact date yet, and said it depends some on how quickly they sell down the stock, but said it will likely be six to eight weeks. They also told me that the Danbury store is now going to be closed as well, leaving only the Pallisaides, and Woodbury stores near me. The only other stores in the state they said are remaining open will be in Long Island, and I believe Syracuse.

He said a lot of stores in PA will be closing as well. I can only hope that when the dust settles a bit, Disney will open a few new locations to fill in some of the markets they are abandoning now.

I work in a MA store, southern area. I have been at our store since opening, 15 years ago. Yes, it is very sad some stores are closing, some cms have lost their jobs and district managers too. We lost our wonderful DM. The stores being closed have been bought by a liquidator and because of that our SM is unable to assist in any way with store closings. DMs have no contact with their closing stores and CMs have lost their discounts. If you buy something at a closing store it is a FINAL sale. you will not be able to return an item to a Disney Store. The closing stores are no longer owned by Disney, so no returns or exchanges.

None of us are sure if any more stores will close, some seem to think there will be. You just never know. I know many of the closings were due to lease issues, renewing and prices paid for leases. If your lease was high and you weren't profitable then I am sure they closed that store. Fortunatly for my store our rent is low and we do an OK business so that we make a profit for the company. We are also an original "pink and green" store with the original animation above.

I love my job and I am thrilled to be Disney again, but it is a bittersweet time for us as some of our local "families" are leaving. Some CMs have been with the company up to 18-20 years.

I am also a cm for the Disney Store. I am in Concord Mills. The original list wasn't totally correct. I know some stores thought they were safe and then got a phonecall on the 2nd and were told they were closing. We lost our DM too and we loved her.

It is sad so many people are losing their jobs. I hope they can find another job.

Our store is brand new...opened in Jan and it has the wood floors and steel shelves already. We even carry more adult clothing than the closest Disney store.

I hope our Disney Store stays open.
We have only one here in Poughkeepsie,NY

The next closest I guess is Danbury, CT - :scared1: 30 miles away driving on I-84 highway wth trucks :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

Next time I am in the mall - I will ask their situation about staying open.
I dearly :worship: hope so.

There is one in the Albany Mall on exit 24. the manager told me that it was staying open and that this summer i could work there. Looking forward to Disney Perks.:goodvibes

I was in the Castleton (Indianapolis) store on Saturday. The Assistant Manager there had just gotten the official list that morning (as well as a call from his District Manager the night before) - Castleton and Greenwood will remain open. Circle Center is closing (sigh, that's my primary store but I'm glad we at least get to keep two of the stores since they are on opposite sides of the city). He was very busy with guests so I didn't get a chance to ask about the other Indiana stores although a second CM thought that Tippe was also staying open.

He was also told the remodeling will begin immediately. Since they moved Castleton to a tiny location, he's hoping they get him more space and will just let the current store stay open during the remodel.

Mall of GA was on the chopping block according to the CM that I spoke to at the Gwinnett store a couple of weeks ago. They were actually thinking of closing Gwinnett too, but that would be a bad move because I am sorry, I am not going to Discover Mills. That mall is always dead and the prices on most of the merchandise is overprised for what is billed as being more of an Outlet mall.

I have my fingers crossed that Gwinnett Place keeps their TDS!

Wow, I sure hope that they don't close the one at the Mall of GA. Though I've been to all 3 stores from time to time, the Mall of GA store is closest to me, and my favorite of the 3. Didn't the store in Discover Mills just open recently?

Wonderful news! I normally shop either Greenwood or Castleton. :goodvibes
