Another Disney Store validation....

Which store in Southeastern Mass?
Live in RI and was at mall yesterday no signs there that they were closing just lots of 40% of sales ( is that a sign that they are closing too ?)

The guy I spoke to (at the Independence Center in MO) said that they have not really been given a date yet. He said there are rumors that it could be anywhere from 6 weeks from now through the end of summer.

I work at the Oak Park Mall store (in KS). The takeover has already taken place and as of May 1st was final. The stores that are closing (the list posted earlier is NOT a final list) have already been purchased by a liquidator company. In the KC area, the Independence and Zona Rosa stores are both closing. We're all very surprised that the Zona Rosa store is closing, because it has been open less than 2 years and is a huge, beautiful new store. The reason there isn't a timeline for when the stores will close is because it depends on the liquidation -- existing stores, like ours, will be sending most of our clearance merchandise over to the closing stores to add to their current inventory, and the stores will be doing progressive markdowns. Every week or so, whatever is left will go down another 10% until everything is gone. When it's gone, the store closes.

We lost our DM too and we loved her.

Our store is brand new...opened in Jan and it has the wood floors and steel shelves already. We even carry more adult clothing than the closest Disney store.

We lost our DM too. I was told that s/he just didn't receive the new offer letter. I guess Disney wants more control with their own people in charge. Also since the number of stores in our district has been drastically reduced, I assume the districts will be rezoned. One of the stores that closed was one of the new ones, very surprising to see such a nice beautiful store close down. I was there for the grand opening not too long ago! Hopefully ours will remodel, it does good business but is looking a little old.

He was also told the remodeling will begin immediately. Since they moved Castleton to a tiny location, he's hoping they get him more space and will just let the current store stay open during the remodel.

Are all the older stores going to remodel? I haven't heard anything about ours remodeling but I'd love it if it did, our SM complains constantly that it really needs it.

No, the stores have been having a sale for several weeks now that any clearance items are an additional 40% off. That is a regular sale and not related in any way to the closing. It is my understanding that the sale will continue until the clearance merchandise is sold or transferred to closing stores for further markdown, to make room for new items (and for some of the current regular-price stuff to move to clearance).

I was in the Castleton (Indianapolis) store on Saturday. The Assistant Manager there had just gotten the official list that morning (as well as a call from his District Manager the night before) - Castleton and Greenwood will remain open. Circle Center is closing (sigh, that's my primary store but I'm glad we at least get to keep two of the stores since they are on opposite sides of the city). He was very busy with guests so I didn't get a chance to ask about the other Indiana stores although a second CM thought that Tippe was also staying open.

He was also told the remodeling will begin immediately. Since they moved Castleton to a tiny location, he's hoping they get him more space and will just let the current store stay open during the remodel.

I love this news. I was so happy when I called Sunday to find out they would be staying open(Castleton). This is our main store(as we live north of Indy).....great news!!! I truly hope they get more space and that the Castleton store can get back to its former glory!!

I think it opened in the late Nineties during the chain's rapid expansion. I know it's been in the mall since at least 2002, but I can't remember if it changed locations within the mall during that time or not. :)

Okay, I have been Twilight Zoned, I guess. Is it still right by the carousel? Maybe it's been way longer since I was at Oak Park than I'm thinking. HM.

Santa (Ray Miller...who did the Blue Ridge Mall until it was bulldozed) moved over to Town Center Plaza 3 Christmases ago. My gosh, maybe I hadn't been to Oak Park since before that. Time flies when you're having fun, eh? I know I was there in 2002 for sure...and I thought 2003. Maybe I just went in and ate at Rainforest Cafe.

I used to drive there all the time in the years between when Blue Ridge shut down and when the new Penneys opened in Independence. The big reason was to have portraits done.

Ah, well, it doesn't surprise me that the Simon people don't get along with Disney. They lost Eddie Bauer years ago. For awhile there I had hope for Independence...when everything started expanding out on the I-70 stretch. For some reason, though, upscale stores (not that Disney is Saxs or anything...but still) really don't want to locate in Independence.

Once I went to TRU to buy a toybox. The one on Noland Road told me I'd have to drive over to 95th Street if I wanted a full sized toybox. They target their merchandise and Independence doesn't have the demographics to merit toyboxes, lol! Ah, yes, just another reason I've happily relocated 10 hours west of there!

I was in the store again on Saturday the 3rd, and they said they got the official word. The don't know an exact date yet, and said it depends some on how quickly they sell down the stock, but said it will likely be six to eight weeks. They also told me that the Danbury store is now going to be closed as well, leaving only the Pallisaides, and Woodbury stores near me. The only other stores in the state they said are remaining open will be in Long Island, and I believe Syracuse.

He said a lot of stores in PA will be closing as well. I can only hope that when the dust settles a bit, Disney will open a few new locations to fill in some of the markets they are abandoning now.

Thanks Tomh for all the info. Unfortunately Long Island and Syracuse is way too far for me. Hopefully they will re-open again in the future sometime.:sad1:

So sad the Zona Rosa store is closing! We love going there and walking around. We live by the speedway, so Zona and Oak Park are about the same distance for us. That is such a beautiful store, we were just there a few weeks ago. I'll have to go check out and see if they have started marking stuff down.

There is one in the Albany Mall on exit 24. the manager told me that it was staying open and that this summer i could work there. Looking forward to Disney Perks.:goodvibes

I thought the one in Albany was closing? I shop at the Poughkeepsie galleria but I am up in Albany often so I was sad to hear they were closing too. I'm glad to hear I was misinformed.

I don't mind going to Woodbury once in awhile but I can't drop in there every week like I could at the Galleria :sad1:

I was in the Maine Mall, South Portland, Maine on 5/2 and an employee told me this store was closing. Bummer.:sad1:

What? No no no it can't because that is the only store in Maine. Nope, sorry, but I do not authorize this closure.:headache:

Yes, maine Mall is closing. It is sad. That store was in my district.
I work in Taunton, MA and we are NOT closing. We are all thrilled. I was an opening CM there and love my job.

This is the second time the Northland has lost a Disney store. Kind of short sighted in my mind, as Zona Rosa is the newest, hottest shopping area. We never get as far out as Oak Park Mall, so I guess no Disney store fix for us anymore.

Which store will be the closest for us Maine people? Is there one in NH?

Does anybody know how it was decided which stores will close and which ones will remain open? When I went in the store on Saturday to buy Disney dollars for our upcoming summer trip (which I couldn't get because all Disney dollars had already been sent to another store) and heard it was closing, I was stunned...every time I go in there it is jam-packed crowded (and it is a big store compared to a couple others I've been in in neighboring states). And that is not just my perception: the manager told me that the store has exceeded profit expectations every year and that she was not given a reason at all as to why it was marked for closing. Ah me.

Hooray for Taunton staying open! That is the one I go to.

Pittsburgh Area People:

I was at Ross Park Mall today and the store there is closing. According to the satff there will be one remaining store in the Pittsburgh area- South Hills Village- YAY! I am glad there will at least be one! It will be a hike for us, but we'll go every now and then still.

I was in Greenwood today, and they verified that Circle Centre is the only store here closing. Hooray! My friend that works there is on vacation, but I am going to talk to her when she comes back about maybe me going back to work there!

Those are the stores that are closing:sad: All the stores that I normally go to Hanes Mall, Four Seasons, and Broadway at the beach are closing... Well at least the OutLet In Myrtle Beach is still open (its the biggest and cheapest). But what am I going to do when I need a Disney Fix next school year?:confused3

Thank you. The nearest ones to me are not on that list.:cool1:

So, does anyone know for sure about the store in Saugus, MA at the Square One Mall? I don't think I can even find Taunton! I am not a MA native, and I count myself lucky when I make it where I'm going outside of my neighborhood!

Okay, I have been Twilight Zoned, I guess. Is it still right by the carousel? Maybe it's been way longer since I was at Oak Park than I'm thinking. HM.

Yes, the Oak Park Mall Disney Store is near the carousel. They have redone the carousel and it's now a nice double-decker -- of course they also now charge $3.00 a ride! :scared1: But that's beside the point....

Zona and Oak Park are about the same distance for us. That is such a beautiful store, we were just there a few weeks ago. I'll have to go check out and see if they have started marking stuff down.

I was told they started the markdowns immediately, since as of May 1st they are now owed by the liquidator.

I know, we were all stunned that such a nice, big new store is closing. But I guess they did not meet their goals. In fact, Oak Park seems to be the ONLY remaining store in all of Kansas AND Missouri. I was told that Disney wants TDS to be "destination shopping" like it used to be when there were not that many.

Thank you. The nearest ones to me are not on that list.:cool1:

That was a preliminary list and is not the final list, although it might be close. Not sure if a final list has been published for the public.
