OK, I feel like I am playing Bingo here and am only one number away. I want to be ready if and when my number is called.

My question is, if a ding becomes available for our travel dates in June, do I just book the ding fare and then cancel my other reservation and get the credit or is there some way to apply the monies I paid for our ticket to the ding fare?

Thank you everyone for all your help. I have never flown Southwest before but I am really looking forward to a direct flight.

I was doing a search on DINGs and I came across your post which no one has answered. SOooo..., I have never booked a DING but have canceled, rescheduled and gotten credit when fares dropped. I have also been reading here and it seems to work this way: If you have already booked flights but then get a DING for one or both of your flights, what you do is cancel your original ressie and then book the DING. I would suggest bringing up a second window for the purchase so you don't run the risk of the DING fare selling out after you cancel but before you rebook. Also, and THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT: Do NOT book the Ding first and then cancel the other; you have to cancel first in order to use the credit to book your DING. I actually made this mistake last year (not a DING, just a fare decrease). I was so excited to see the sale I wasn't thinking stright. I hurried up and booked the new fare and THEN went back to cancel the first one. Of course I was given a credit but couldn't use it because I had already booked the other fare! Thankfully I got right on the phone and called SW and the girl I spoke with told me not to worry! She fixed it right away...phew!
HTH ;)

The way I do it is I have my Dings open in NETSCAPE and my regular already fare (one-ways)booked using IE

So I open and go all the way to see if my flight has a Ding (if it does I go back to the DING start this is important )

Then I flip to IE to cancel my flight I go all the way until right before I cancel.

I then go back and recheck for my DING ( this is important as the time it took to open and cancel the other flight the ding might have been no longer avail so this cuts down the gap time) Right up until I pay ,If still avail.

I flip to IE cancel get the credit number .

flip back to DING put in the credit number to pay (so from my check for now avail ding to cancel to pay is under a minute)

I practised this many time right up to the point of cancel anf booking to find the easiest and quickest way to ensure I got my Ding and this is the fastest I came up with .I've used it for 4 different times with no problem.

If you don't have Netscape or another browser you could just open another window for whatever browser you use I just find it faster using 2 different ones.
