I have a question about developer points. I know they can only be used at the 7 month window. my question is: say I buy a 110 point add on at AKL. I have 110 AKL points tied up in a reservation at SSR in March. Since March is already within the 7 month window, will member services allow me to switch the points (IE take back the AKL points and Bank them, replacing them with developer points) or will they require me to cancel them and re book?

I'm probably not a good person to answer this because I always thought the developer's points had to be used at a different resort than the one you bought at.

People have reported that they have done this. As you said, it's only an option if you booked the original reservation within the 7-month window. It wouldn't be possible to do this with a reservation booked within the 11-month window.

Think of developer points as "generic" points with no particular home resort associated with them. They can be used anywhere, but only within the 7-month window. They can be used at the resort you purchased, but not inside the 11-month window because they are not "home" resort points.

Thanks LisaS...I was really hoping my answer was incorrect!

Since you booked the reservation at SSR using AKV points it must have been made in the 7 month window, I don't see any problem in them swapping the AKV points for developer points.

If you had booked using the home resort advantage then they would not swap them, you would have effectively cancel and re-book.

Thanks all, I thought this was the case, just wanted some reassurance.

Yes,

Member services will substitute your developer points into an existing reservation, so they are used up first.

Best, Goldi
