Another Deluxe Dining Plan Use Question

In reading the various threads, it appears from time to time depending on what table service you dine, it may be an issue using a child's dining credit to pay for an adult meal ordering from a menu.

With that being said, is there ever a problem using a child's credit to pay for an adult meal if the table service is a buffet? Also, at a buffet, I assume you simple "lose" the use of an appetizer or dessert. Correct?

Table service is split adult/child credits. The deluxe plan does not differentiate.

Let's deal with the buffet first...you don't lose the app and dessert as there are app and desserts on the buffet. There usually aren't a la carte items to order at a buffet anyway.

As to using a child DxDDP credit to get an adult meal, most reports right NOW are that it usually is okay, especially if you're using it to buy an adult the meal. Example: you have two adults, two kids on the plan, but you have four adults and two kids eating. You use your DxDDP credits to get the four adult meals and two kid's meals. You won't have any problem doing this anywhere. However, if you want to get six adult meals and two of the people at the table are obviously kids, you MIGHT be told no. The brochure still says, "kid's must order from a kid's menu," but they rarely enforce this. Since you can use your credits to buy others a meal, and the credits are not actually separated, you can use a kid's credit to buy an adult a meal for right NOW. There are those of us who think they will find a way to separate these for 2018 because of the addition of an alcoholic beverage to the plan.

The deluxe plan does not differentiate between the child and adult credits, so your question re: the buffet doesn't apply. If you are 1 child and 1 adult at a buffet, 2 of your deluxe dining credits will be charged. You are correct in that you technically don't have an appetizer and dessert at a buffet (i.e. there is no a la carte items in addition to the buffet), but the buffet itself has appetizers and desserts. In the case of a buffet, a deluxe dining credit, gets you exactly what a regular dining plan TS credit would get you.

As for children ordering off of the adult menu on the deluxe plan. I have never had an issue doing this (have done it many times over the last 3 trips) and in fact it is more often than not encouraged, likely due to the fact that this drives up the total cost of the meal which in turn results in a higher tip for the server. The few times I have read about it being an issue have been non Disney owned restaurants, but those reportings are very few and far between. Technically, the brochure does say under 10 has to order off of a kids meal, so I suppose it's possible that they may decide to enforce it at some point, but I doubt it. If they wanted to differentiate between a child and adult credit, they would have done that by now. Besides, if it really came down to it and I was 1 adult with 1 child, what's to stop me from ordering 2 meals for myself?
