What's the deal? Have the DISboards turned into Disney deathwatch?!?

:rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

It seems the offbeat topic of discussion on all the boards this summer is this obsession that the media has with reporting and overblowing in some cases the tragedies that have occurred at the parks and sometimes months later see Records: Man, 30, died after Disney ride in April. It's a shame really that the media can't report more positive things really. Maggie

Thank you for the info! I wonder why they would JUST be reporting that death on the Orlando news. That was a while ago. Poor guy. He was awfully young. :sad2:

Slow news day?

My sympathies to this mans family. I agree with the poster that at least he died with his family around him in the happiest place on earth. Years ago my father died on the way to a football game. I took solice in the fact he was on his way to something he really wanted to do and loved. :sunny:

Exactly. As much as I hate it when someone dies, just think how happy they must have been at Disney or on the way to a football game!!!! :flower3:

I agree with you-why is it news? It is a terrible thing but it's not something that should be reported on the news. Disney World has enough people in it every day to equal the population of a good-sized city. Unfortunately, when you have that large of a population, people die every day. So, why does the media feel it needs to be reported just because the location was Disney? It's too bad.

Have a good day everyone and get your caffeine. :teeth:

Sorry. I was just reporting what I heard and asking for conformation. It just seems like there have been a rash of deaths and injuries (obviously none of them Disney's fault). I am just wondering if there has been an actual spike in all of this or have they just been focused on by the media more.

I think your last sentence hits the nail right on the head. I work at a newspaper, and I can tell you, the media loves sensationalism.

Disney is a big, popular place. When something negative happens there, it's news. And the media LOVES to drag out a story as long as possible. I can guarantee you CNN has a person strictly assigned to Disney right now, waiting for the next tragedy to come along. Once they get on a story, it's no letting go (hell, just look at the missing Alabama girl in Aruba story).

What disappoints me is the fact that they don't report the entire truth. The guy that died recently died because of heart failure. He had a pacemaker and it gave out. But what was reported? Man dies after riding Dinosaur.

Why doesn't the media report deaths in restaurants/supermarkets/churches?

Earlier this summer, when we had those two shark attacks, the media reported it like it was the apocalypse. What they failed to mention in any of the reports I read is that more people were struck by lightning on beaches this year than died of shark attacks. But lightning doesn't sell, shark attacks (JAWS!!!) do.

It's the one thing about the business I'm in that I really don't like. I don't like the sensationalism just to sell more papers/get better ratings. Whatever happened to just reporting the news and letting the reader/viewer draw their own conclusions based on the facts?

Bucnh24: You are exactly right and you probably know a lot more about this than most of us. As morbid as it sounds, I hear that the media (some) goes by the idea "if it bleeds, it leads." A lot of us have a fascination with crime and other things that go on in the news. Thats why it stays in the news so long--- like you said about Natalee Holloway. If there was no interest in finding out mre about this case, the media would have dropped it. I can't say I am innocent. I love to hear about updates on cases like that. That sounds bad, but I am just curious once they start the story. I know its unlikely, but I hope Natalee just ran away or something. Maybe she got stressed out about med school and just bolted. Who knows, but I hope there is a huge break and something happens soon. :flower3:

It's the media. Why else is this April 30th death just being reported (In my paper today too)? People die all the time at Disney I imagine. Not because of Disney though. I know of at least 2 posters on these boards who lost family there. One is young and lost her DH at a Disney resort a few years back. Never read of these stories in the paper. Media is fixated on them now. ::yes::

The picture overload in this thread is making my head spin. Aren't we up against some sort of pixel limit?

(Apologies in advance but) I'm guessing someone here has a lot of mirrors in their house.

I am guessing this is directed at me since I have a picture of me (because I like to also see who I am speaking with), my 2 dogs whom I love very much, and my boyfriend and I of 4 years. SORRY! I think I am gonna disappear for a while. Some people have no tact. Today just isn't my day. :rolleyes2

I do have one question. If you feel like you have to apologize in advance for something, why would you even say it????? :crazy2:

Come on, was this necessary? People were having a discussion and this contributed nothing to it. Please be nice.

I am sorry you feel that way Miranda. Some people just feel the need to go on personal attacks no matter what the subject. On the bright side you can go on and block them so that you will not have to read their posts anymore if that helps. Please don't leave the boards or not post something just because of a small handful of people who choose to be negative. I have read many of your posts in the past and have found them very informative and entertaining. And for those who do not like the topic there is a simple solution to that...do not open the thread :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

Is that Will Ferrell playing the cowbell in that SNL parody?? :rotfl2:
