I've been scouring these boards trying to find out info on crusing with my son who has high functioning ASD. We are booked on the Wonder for May 2008. He has really good language skills, not so great listening skills, and we're having a hell of a time potty training him - he just turned 4 and I'm at my wits end. Here are my questions:

1. Other than filling out the medical form (he's also allergic to peanuts and tree nuts) is there anyone on the cruise I should notify about his ASD diagnosis?

2. Is there any way that he can enjoy Oceaners club if he's not potty trained- without my staying with him all day. As selfish as this sounds I'd like to have some time every day when we can enjoy some adult activities too.

3. Is there any type of GAC for the cruise- lines are sometimes an issue and meltdowns are the result. Especially if there's a lot of chaotic noise (too many people talking and kids screaming). It's a hit or miss - we have good sensory days and not so good sensory days.

4. Other than waiting in line to meet the characters before meals, are there any other lines I need to be aware of?

5. I've been looking at the WDW w/special needs book by Passporter - has anyone found this book helpful?

Any answers you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

I'm looking at the Cruise Documents. For the Oceaneer Club (Ages 3-7) they indicate the following requirements:

Completely potty-trained (no pull-up diapers)

Able to interact comfortably within our counselor-to-child ratio of 1:15 (ages 3-4) and 1:25 (ages 5-12)

Parents and Guardians are welcome to accompany their child at any time.

EXCEPTIONS THAT MAY PREVENT PARTICIPATION INCLUDE:

A child who becomes disruptive within the group. Should this occur, the child may need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian to participate.

Unfortunately we cannot accommodate a child who requires one-on-one care.

So it looks like potty training is the only real issue as far as the kids club. He interacts fine with other kids and adults, plays well, and is one of the least disruptive kids I know (he's very laid back - almost to a fault because he lets his 2y/o sister bully him....)

Anyone have any info on some of my other questions?
