Well the original plan for this day was to get up early to attack Islands of Adventure with perhaps Citywalk in the evening. Well actually that was the second plan - the original was to do Kennedy Space Center and see the coastline. We decided on Friday to do Islands the next day as it would be open the extra hour.
For some reasons both Glen and I were dragging. Perhaps the last week of hot Florida weather and the wedding was catching up on us. When our wake-up call came in we got up (7:30) but we sure weren't moving fast! We ate some breakfast in our room - along with our refillable cup beverages. (Need that caffeine!!) My new hubby refilled the mugs for us each morning while I was in the shower!! What a guy!
We got to Islands of Adventure about 9:30. We stood outside the entrance gates and the crowds were enourmous!! All week long we barely had to stand in line to get through gates or security and here was a HUGE crowd just to get in! And the park had already been open for 40 minutes! It was so hot and we were so tired we decided to screw our $7 parking fee and hike back to the car. We figured Monday or Tuesday would be much more enjoyable at Islands! Neither of us were in the "big ride" mode either.
So on the 1000 mile hike back to the car we discussed our options. We decided to go back to plan 1 of my itinerary and take a drive out to the coast. We figured Saturday would be a quiet day at Kennedy. I napped in the car - those motion sickness pills made me drowsy! I had taken 2 to conquer Islands!
We arrived at Kennedy just after 11. We trudged all the way to the front gates - no trams here! - to find they would not let us take our bag in. We had taken this bag into Universal and Disney so had not figured on that. So Glen went ALL the way back in the heat to take the bag back to the car! Well I guess we're buying lunch now!!
We spent 5 hours at Kennedy - 11:30-4:30. Glen was definately more interested in that kind of thing than I was. I had been here previously and found it just as boring this time! Just kidding - the IMAX film is great along with some of the exhibits. I found the tour kinda boring. Wow another building - wow! I was drowsy all day and actually napped a bit during the last film we saw!
Lunch was pizza and ice cream at one of the fast food restaurants inside Kennedy.
By 4:30 we were all spaced out and ready to move on. We took a drive to Cocoa Beach. Of couse we saw some ocean liners and waterskiiers. Hey we're from the Prairies, the ocean is cool to us!
Of course since we were not planning on coming we did not have swim suits with us so could only wade in.
We headed back to Orlando. Long boring drive in the drizzling rain! I had forgotten the entertainment book back in the hotel and I figured we might as well make use of it. So we drove back to the hotel to grab the book.
Okay the rest of the plan was to grab a cheap supper and see the Titanic museum. We were driving down International Drive in the rain. When I saw Wonderworks I thought it was the same mall as the TItanic. So we pulled into the parking garage. Turns out we were at a upscale urban mall called Pointe Orlando. Since we had a coupon for a restaurant/ bar there we stayed as we were starving. I forget the name of the restaurant. I think we both had wraps. It was definately forgettable but at least it was cheap. After looking around the mall (FAO Schwartz, Armani Exchange, etc.) we weighed our options. THe ticket booth to Titanic was now closed as it was 9. We both were tired and did not feel like hitting Citywalk or Pleasure Island. The hotel room sounded good! On the way back to I4 we went passed Mercado Marketplace where the Titanic museum is located! We turned in just to check out the times at the Titanic and take a look around. It started pouring and there wasn't much to do there so we headed home.
We were hoping for a quick swim but when we got back to the hotel at 10:30 it was still pouring rain so we were out of luck.
Felt kind of cheated out of the evening. As the day didn't go according to plan, especially getting to Kennedy so late caused us to spend the evening driving around! Well the best laid plans....
