I am sure this information is on this forum somewhere, but have yet to come across it. Please help with this answer if possible. Let's say I purchase a 150 point contract. With banking and borrowing, I have 450 points. Now, I want to stay in some type of accomodation that requires even more points. Obviously, the answer is to have a fellow DVC member transfer some points to my account for reimbusement. Do I have to have all of the points in my account prior to reserving this deluxe stay? And, to complicate matters further, do I need to find a member with the same home resort so the 11 month rule comes into play? As always, to all of you veterans, your kind help is most appreciated!!

I believe you are correct on both points.
1. MS will not make a reservation unless all points are "available" at the time the reservation is made
2. In order to book at the 11 month mark all points used for the stay must be points from that resort. If you want to use points from a different resort to book part of the reservation you will have to wait until the 7 month mark to make the part of the reservation which uses those points (ie. you might be able to book the first 5 nights and have to wait until the 7 month mark to book the remaining three)

If you need a reservation that requires more points, you have several options:

1) See if you can pay cash for some nights.

2) Have another member reserve some nights for you and pay them for the reservation

3) Arrange for a member to transfer points into your account (I'm fuzzy on the details of this)

Think of your points as "cash". If you haven't got the cash in the bank, you cannot make a reservation. You would not be able to reserve more than 450 points worth of nights prior to make other arrangements.

Yes, you have to have the points in your account before MS will make the reservation for you. You can make reservations for the nights that your available points allow - maybe leave the weekend night off or preferrably the last night off. Then when you get the transferred points in you can add that night to your reservation.

Technically yes, transferred points are suppose to retain their original home resort. But I've read/heard that the MS computers "read" transferred points like they were the same as YOUR home resort unless you made a point of having MS note the original home resort when transferred. Who knows if the DVC computers will be updated in the future and smart enough to recognize the correct home resort to use on transferred points without human intervention.

Have fun and good luck with your vacation planning!

A small technical correction. You do not have to have the points at the time you make the reservation, you have to have the points at the time of the reservation. Someone said before if your reservation crosses over two use years you could use up to four years of points. That gets a little more complicated.

Kirt -- Thanks for putting in that clarification. I was coming back to make sure the original poster understood that the points have to be available for use at the time of the reservation.
