If you don't snorkel, and just want to play on the beach with kids, 4 and 10, then is Trunk Bay worth the trouble or would Magen's Bay be easier and better? Thought of Coki, but it looked kind of small, and Magen's looks prettier to me if we're staying on St. Thomas.

I would like to hear some responses to this also. Would like to go to Trunk Bay, as I hear its beautiful, but is Magens Bay just as beautiful if you are not snorkeling?

Magen's Bay is one of the Top 10 most beautiful beaches in the world. The only way you'd be disappointed with it is by the nagging feeling that the grass is greener at Trunk Bay. Or if you wanted to snorkel. But with kids and no particular interest in snorkeling, Magen's Bay would be far easier to get to and would be a perfectly lovely place to spend the day. (Here's a photo.)

GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!! Dave, Thanks for the photo, seems I'll be going to Megans Bay. No reason to go anywhere else, especially after reading what was written on the bottom of the photo.

THANKS:)

Joanna

Do you take a regular taxi or water taxi to Magens Bay?

Also, how long does it take to get there?

Thanks
Joanna

Was that a cactus in the picture???? Looks like a suquaro.... Really???? A cactus by the beach?????

But I digress.......it is a gorgeous beach for sure!

You would take a regular (land-based) taxi to get to Magen's Bay. It is on the north (Atlantic) side of the island, almost directly north of the cruise-ship pier. Shouldn't take more than a half-hour to get there by taxi.

Thanks SenorFerrari, I am also assuming that cabs are also at the beach to take you back. Am I correct?

Yes. Keep in mind that the driver who takes you to the beach will want to make arrangements to pick you up at a designated time. This will guarantee that he gets another fare in the afternoon. Politely decline. This is your day. You are doing an excursion on your own... you can decide how early or late you want to leave the beach. There will be no shortage of taxis willing and able to take you back to the ship.

We asked the taxi driver to stop at one of the highest points of the island on the way to Magen's Bay, she was happy to do so. We stopped for about 4-5 minutes to take the view in. We got her to take a great family photo of us with the beautiful blue water and beaches behind us. The spot overlooked Magen's Bay, it was breathtaking. If I remember correctly, the taxi ride took about 20 minutes to get there... not long at all.

I would suggest asking the driver to stop on the way over, it is beautiful. We absolutely loved Magen's Bay! We found starfish in the shallow water (in the sand) and really enjoyed the bay with its calm waters and no waves.

Have a great time, enjoy.

Thanks Howard...Sounds like a nice photo op and better yet a great view. Glad it seems like a nice beach. Now I just need to find just as nice a beach on St. Martin.

Thanks
Joanna

We went to Dawn Beach on St. Martin (it was highly recommended on this BOARD). We caught a cab right off the ship and went straight to Dawn...10 min ride. There are 2 restaurants with good food right on the beach. There are lots of local vendors selling things, braiding hair, etc. There were some good deals though. It is run by the locals, so you have to rent chairs, umbrellas...we paid $10- got 2 chairs, a large umbrella and 2 rum punches...the people running it were very nice. Saw lots of other DCL cruisers there, but not crowded at all. Our cab driver was there to pick us up at 3pm as we requested when he dropped us off...he took us to the downtown area where we bought clothes for Tropical Night (great deals there on tropical skirts, shirts, etc, but you have to look and bargain...do talk them down...don't pay what they ask). You can walk back to the ship. St. Martin is known for being pushy sellers, but we enjoyed the experience of being in another country and seeing another way of life. We'd do Dawn Beach again for sure. We did go to Coki on St. Thomas, but we love to snorkle and it was magnificant...our favorite...we liked it better than Castaway Cay for the beauty and snorkling. Have a great time!!
