Another AP and DDE question

I am wondering, since I have an AP, if it would make more sense to get the Dining plan or to get the DDE? I usually get the dining plan, but a couple of thousand spreadsheets later :rotfl: I find not much difference between cash and DP, according to what I plan to eat. And what I find also with the DP is I eat more courses at signature restaurants than I might otherwise - which is going to probably kill me one of these days cholesteral wise. So I am thinking about going DPless :scared: So then I thought the DDE might be a better idea as I would get the 20% off of everything. Is that right? What do you think makes more sense?

I like the DDE. If you want to eat, you do, with discounts at many places.

Is there a list of places you can use the DDE? If I cannot use it very many places, it may not be worhtwhile for me.

You can use it at most places. I had a list at one time and i was surprised at all the places you could use it...even at some of the bars and lounges.

Thank you so much for the list! :worship: I had no idea so many places were included.

We use the DDE and love it. I can't imagine getting the DDP -way too much food for us, we don't eat appetizers except occasionally and rarely have dessert. Its so much less expensive to order what we can eat and get 20% off.

OOOHHH!!! Well that changes everything for me!! I did not know this! Woo Hoo!:cool1:

We're staying for two weeks and I was trying to figure out how to work a 10 day pass on 14 days because we ALWAYS get the DDP --- it's not a question for us!

this is great! Now, by the time we actually need it, they'll probably change it back to the way it was!

I've always thought that if you have anual passes you COULDN'T get the Disney Dining Plan....has this changed????

Am I misunderstanding your question?

You can get a DDP with a room-only ressie if you have an AP, but this thread was about DDE...the Disney Dining Experience card. It gives 20% off dining at the list of restaurant above. With an AP it costs $60, but if you eat a lot of table service, but don't want a three course meal everytime, and since you'll be there for 2 weeks, it might be the better deal for you...it is for us. 18% gratuity is added to the bill. :)

Good morning! Keep in mind that the DDE card costs $60, so you have to spend a fair amount of money to make that up. I was thinking about it, but I'd end up losing money when it's just me traveling :sad2: Of course, you do eat a lot more TS and more expensive stuff than I do ;)

I go with the DDE exclusively because I am not limited as to what I can order.

I can't imagine getting the DDP -way too much food for us, we don't eat appetizers except occasionally and rarely have dessert.

This may be a reference to the dining plan as it existed before 2008. Now, unless you're using the Deluxe DDP, you don't get so many courses at signature restaurants - basic DDP doesn't cover appetizers at table service, only entrees and dessert.

Has anyone had the DDE work at a restaurant other than those on the list?

No, they must be on that list. That list is also not entirely up to date. Concourse Steakhouse is closed. The Wave took its place and does accept DDE.

You cannot use DDE on its eight blackout days per year (usually major holidays). And as of 2008, all DDE users, regardless of party size, are charged an automatic 18% tip at table service and bars/lounges.

I'm sorry if this is a repeat since I have not read the entire thread. The biggest thing with the DDE is that it DOES NOT include many/any counter service options other than those at AS or POP.

It may even work in your favour to get both, thats what we're doing. We're going for 2 weeks on DDP. The DDE will help discount drinks and the times we wants apps. The second week we have 2 more people joining us, and again will help with drinks, apps and even some extra meals (like breakfast)

We did dsome calculations since we always tend to get at least a drink with each sit down meal, we will be breaking even before the end of our first week for sure.

If you are interested in primarily counter service, it is not the program for you.

However, besides the All-Stars and Pop food courts, DDE is good at the POFQ food court, the counter service at Saratoga Springs and all counter service at Animal Kingdom park except Yak & Yeti's CS.
