Another alcohol question

Your opinion, and mine is different. Acceptable, yes it is tolerated. Desirable, not IMO. Ex Techie :)

OP wanted to know if hubby was ABLE to bring beer ... did not ask for anyone's opinion, or whether it was tolerated, or desirable! The proper answer would have been, "YES!" :confused3

There are NO rules or recommendations from DCL about carrying a can of beer around...people even carry it by the bucket full! :thumbsup2

... GOTTA LOVE that BUCKET-o-BEER! :)

Disney's policy is very clear:
"Alcohol brought on board may not be consumed in any lounge or public area. Guests who arrive in the dining room with a bottle of champagne or wine that has been brought on board will be charged a corking fee of $20.00 per bottle."

So "no one would know" doesn't seem the right approach. Disney is the only line I've sailed on that allows guests to bring their own alcohol aboard for consumption in their room; let's not give them second thoughts by not heeding their reasonable restriction.

The corkage fee is imposed if you want the server to cork the bottle AFTER dinner, and forward it to your next restaurant. We have brought a bottle of wine to dinner many times (including the ones you win on the ship) ... the server asks if we'd like to be served ... we say, YES PLEASE!

Yes, DCL permits guests to bring alcohol ... which is one more reason we sail DCL almost exclusively ... but we do not bring multiple cases of beer, or a case of wine or champagne on the ship. For DCL's generosity, we do not mind buying an occasional mixed drink ($7+) in the WD Theatre, or coffee ($3.50) in Cove Cave.

If you bring the bottle of wine or champagne, yes....but it doesn't say beer. They wouldn't normally charge a corkage fee for a bottle of beer....and that's the concern and reason for that policy. If you buy a bottle of wine onboard, at your table, they collect a fee. Not true when ordering a bottle/can of beer or soda. They just don't want to lose out on money they would normally be making.

Sounds like a bad Monday for a few people.;)

Wow!
You all have been busy posting whilst I was away for 30 minutes!

Bad Monday, not at all, actually it was quite a good day at work and I spoke to my mom afterwards, got some food in and all is good! :goodvibes

Personally I think walking around a cruise ship with a can of beer is tacky.
If you do not like to pour it into a glass then so be it, but that is my opinion. If we were in your back yard then cool! But on a ship..... Not cool in my opinion. FLAME AWAY!

My comment to jilljill is seperate.

andersonfamily, I'm not sure DCL encourage people to walk around carrying a beer to advertise beer and sell more ;)

My not in a can comment was more to stop someone looking less than someone might like to look walking into a classy restaurant, not Mc Donald's.
FLAME AWAY AGAIN IF YOU LIKE! (broad flame proof shoulders here)

insureman, it's a roll of duct tape but even if it were electrical tape, they both solve a myriad of problems in our world and are equally amazing!

We have preordered a case of beer to be waiting in our room
I know you can bring your own wine to dinner, will hubby be able to bring his beer to dinner
Yes.

Not in a can. Nor should he walk around the ship with a can.
If it were in a beer glass from the bar's or a DCL Beer Mug, then no one would know.

Ex Techie :)
Why can't he? It's purchased from DCL.

Taking a can of beer is distasteful IMO.
In a glass would be better.

Ex Techie :)
The question wasn't about tacky or etiquette. The question was about what's allowed and what's not.

...I never thought beer etiquette could become as hot a topic as appropriate attire can!:rotfl:
hehe, but this is DIS. :upsidedow :flower3: :grouphug:

The OP isn't bringing the alcohol onboard. It's being ordered from DCL and being placed in their stateroom.

I can think of one really good use for duct tape right now.....:rolleyes1

What beer DO they sell on the cruise, so that I can pack accordingly for DH. He doesn't care to swap beers mid-day/mid-buzz :3dglasses

Thank you for the flowers, no hard feeling's, but.

We all have different opinion's, views, and interpretation's of the rules, guidelines and what we think is appropriate and what is not.

There are too many thread's on here discussing dress attire for the MDR's, is my kid allowed with swim diapers, and can my kid aged (?) go into the club even though they are not old enough thread's and post's on here.

I voiced my opinion, and as it seem's, many didn't agree.
Does that mean they are all right and my opinion isn't valid?

It's a discussion forum and everyones opinion is valid, whether you think it's right or wrong, and the poster has to take what they want from it and make their own decision, based on the information given and their own personal judgement.

It's all about discussing, commenting, and then making a decision for yourself.

I agree 100% if the OP had said, "What does everyone think about carrying a can of beer around the ship?" However, what the OP asked was, "Is it allowed?" The answer is, "yes." You said, "no."

This is all over beer in a can or in a glass. I think you should drink your beer how you want to. We had a case on our last cruise and we will do it again. We drank it out of the can. We didn't bring it to dinner since each night we would drink one of the specials. Drink from what makes you enjoy your beer. It is yours after all.

It appears by the gifts page, Dis is selling just about any beer that comes in a metal can. We will buy those prior to cruising and walk around with our expensive convenience store beers.

Cheers! Jill

Wow! I went to sleep with one reply and I see it's made quite a debate since. I agree it is tacky carrying around a bottle of beer but I also paid DCLs mark up for the beer so hubby could enjoy himself and I know he would enjoy a beer with dinner. He has no intention of carrying a beer around the ship that's more inconvenient then anything. It just leaves me to think if he wasn't allowed it in the dining room then what was the point of purchasing it if he had to be in the stateroom to enjoy it?

He can put the beer in a glass and carry it anywhere, including the dining room. Absolutely no questions will be asked about a glass of beer in the dining room. If he walks in with a can, don't know if he will be asked where he got the can or not.

Glass containers are not permitted on the open decks. For those who carry bottles around, that will be allowed on the inside decks, but not the open passenger decks (pool and observation decks for instance).
