just got off the phone with cro and was told that everyone will need to move from akl due to and I quote "core cement drilling" I must say I am totally confused about the whole thing but we got moved. We had lots of choices, poly(garden), cr (garden), bwi, bc, yc, wl and ssr (1 bedroom)no gf though! We ended up chosing wl because we already have a split stay at poly this trip and we have stayed at bc conceirge before so wl looked like the next best thing and the pool looks comparable. Now I have to get to work on researching the wl!!!

All I can say is I am sorry! At least now you know and don't have the worry over moving or staying lingering over your head.
Core cement drilling! Uggh! That sounds like root canal for a building.
I wouldn't want to stay with that kind of noise!
I hope you have a wonderful time at WL!

May I ask what your dates are??

Tx!!

Aug 14-18 are my dates. I didn't ask what dates are affected at this time. It was a very strange phone call I must say. I had called on July 3rd originally to just verify my ressie at akl, I was told initially that I would have to move but I asked if I could stay and the answer was "absolutely" so I decided at that time to stay. Today I received a call asking which resort I chose to move to, I said I told you on July 3rd that I am staying, the reply was oh well things have changed and you will have to move. I was a little frustrated about the whole situation at first, I ended up on the phone with cro for 25minutes and I think they just got frustrated with me so they told me I could stay and just be aware that when I check in on Aug 14th that they may move me at that time, I said I was ok with that, thinking that would not happen. I hung up and no more than 10mins. later my phone rang again, this time I got a manager of some sort and she stated that keeping my ressie at akl is not an option at this time and that I would most definitely have to move, so that is when I finally gave in and chose wl! Whew, that was a hard decision and now I am fine with it, I know we will have a super time, looking forward to trying a new resort!

Marlower,

I would seriously consider stopping by AKL during your visit, if only to go to Boma or Jiko, to see if the hotel truly is closed. Based on other threads on this issue, I really don't believe that all guests will be moved. Lying to guests is not acceptable! :sad2:

I think there may be confusion ..

It may be "All Guests at your reserved room level" for example..

Or "All Guests for your dates" -- there is a possibility the entire resort IS closed for selected days.

Or it may be some combination of those things..

I'm not sure anyone has been lied to.

I hear you! I have an ADR for Bomas and I plan on keeping it just to see what the status is over there, plus I hear the food at Bomas is excellent. I know for sure I was mislead several times in one phone call. At first I was told that everyone will be moving out of AKL and staying is not an option, then after pressing further was told that 1/2 the resort will be closed and then pressing further the CM stated, "well, I really don't know how much of the resort will be closed" I asked to talk to someone who does know and she said no! Go figure, I'm really not upset, I just want to know the truth, is the resort going to be closed or partially closed or what! Regardless, I have been moved to WL and really looking forward to that experience. My DD is not as thrilled as she picked AKL for her 13th birthday, oh, darn, we will just have to plan another disney trip with AKL in the mix, except I will plan on that trip being in 2009 after all construction is complete!

the Poly is nice for a short stay...esp if going to MK and Epcot...

just my 2 cents!!

I'm so sorry you were moved from AKL. I'll probably be next. We're staying there (I thought) Aug. 17 - 24. I initiated a call with the dedicated number and that CM told me I could stay because we are concierge level. I was just wondering, were you concierge level?

I guess I'd better decide where we want to stay in case they call. I'm so disappointed, though. If I had known this ahead of time, I would have chosen a different time, but now plane tickets have been bought and I've already paid in full. I've also used $1200 worth of Disney Visa points to pay for the room, which I doubt I can get back.

I'm sure we'll have fun regardless, but I am disappointed.

We were booked at AKL for a pool view room. I bet your ressie will be fine staying concierge level. Good luck!

I'm sorry you were moved. I understand how people feel upset even with an upgrade. I keep telling myself that if we get moved it will be okay and if it's Poly or GF, it will be a better deal, but something it just doesn't make me feel better about the posibility of getting moved. I know most people who got moved feel the same way.

Yes, this is exactly how I feel. For me, I guess I feel like they moved me but I just have a feeling that they are not moving everyone so why couldn't they accomodate me, but then I guess I could say why should they accomodate me. I had an ADR at Bomas that I think I will cancel afterall because I think it will just make me upset to see people swimming in the pool knowing that could have been me, so I will just wait until all construction is done and go back and stay at AKL.

I have worked in large project construction for years, and to be fair to Disney, this flip flopping of closures may not be coming from them but from Florida's Safety Inspectors and/or from the General Contractor's Safety Team. As in all large projects, there is a project timeline for scheduled events to be met and co-ordinated with a large number of trades. The client (Disney) has to be fairly compliant and flexible to meet these timelines or it results in cost over runs to the General Contractor. At the start of the project, there would have been an outline of what/who would have to be moved/shut down etc, but with all big projects there is always unforeseen issues that develop and instant decisions have to be made. Part of the problem could be that these rooms are now considered part of the "construction site" by one of the Safety Inspectors, so by law ( and insurance regulations) you can not be occupying these rooms unless you are part of the construction company regardless if it is during "working" hours or not. I'm sure on paper when they were planning this construction, everything looked like it would work smoothly, unfortunately everything that works on paper, rarely goes that smoothly in real life. I'm sure free upgrades were never part of the original plan and is now one Disney is paying for.

We're due to check in to a savanna view bunk bed room on 8/4 and we haven't been contacted. I need to start prepping dh that we may be moved at check-in, if he's not prepared he'll go ballistic. And I'm going to be really upset if they don't help out with moving luggage and such, although I assume they will, because that will really cut into our day. I know if we're moved the only thing that will really accommodate us is the Poly or a bunk bed room at WL.

but I wonder how many of you other 'refugees' had standard view rooms like we did?

We were in a pool view 8/20-8/26. I called and was told we should move. I didn't fight it, because these threads have me convinced that avoiding the AKL debacle as much as possible is the best bet for a relaxing honeymoon (e.g. getting moved at check-in would cause us to miss our first ADR and some of our first night in the parks).

For the record, the move to GF feels good in the sense that it's a good deal money-wise, but feels bad because it really dilutes the theme of our honeymoon. We are doing AK two days, doing Seaworld, doing Dolphins in Depth at Epcot, and are not even visiting the MK. Now we have ended up on the MK monorail! :sad2:

hey our dates were 12-17 a deluxe room concierge level. was wondering if anyone was comped for the inconvience? I asked and was told no. very disapointed. we are staying at the contempary now.

You were bumped from a concierge room at AKL?? All the other threads have said the concierge level guests were safe and would not have to move!!

In terms of being "comped" it sounds like it only happens if you actually attempt to check in at AKL and are forced, at that point, to go to another resort. I've read of one person getting $50/day and another getting $100/day for their inconvenience.

I think you should keep your boma ADR.

Being moved puts you in the majority it seems, so try not to get too down.

If they move me, I'm going to try to make it over for my ADRs at AKL as much as i can! :)
