O.k. forgive me I am still new at this, being as I just joined the DVC :cool1: . If I am going to rent to someone wanting to go in April, should I get a down payment for 1/2 in the form of cashiers check? Then get them to send the balance by the 1st of March?

You might want to ask for full payment as soon as you make the reservation. You take payment any way you want. Just give yourself enough time to cancel if they don't come through, unless you don't want to give them any cancellation rights.

Did you borrow points to make this reservation? Could you use the points yourself if they don't come through? Will you have time to cancel and eventually use the points?

Do you get them to sign a contract? I had read something about that, & where would you obtain one? I did not borrow the points, & I could possibly use them for my next trip. I already have my vacation planned, so I could change my accomadations to stay in a larger room just to use points. I just really did not need them & they expire next Feb, so I have to bank them now or use them. I was asking for a Cashiers check or money order so I would not have to deal with out of town checks. I was also asking that the balance be paid 40 days before the trip. Does this sound fair?

If you have a February use year, you can bank all of your points up until July 31. If you have a March use year, you can bank all of you points up until August 31. You have some time to get your plans in order and to learn the ins and outs of renting (if that is the direction you choose to go) before you have to leap in. The worst case scenario is that you bank the points and then rent them next year (no restriction on renting banked points, you just can't transfer them to another member as I recall). If you plan to go every year, I would bank the points. Then, if in a future year you want to take a longer trip or stay in a larger unit you will have the extra points (you just keep using banked points for your reservations or to supplement your reservations till that time and keep banking each year).

Hi,

I would ask for all of their info. up front before booking, or releasing a confirmation number. The whole trip should be paid for within 7 days of booking the reservation. Paypal or Cashier's check has worked out well. Make sure that they have a way to get there, so you're not having to move days around etc... I think 40 days is cutting it close, but you will have enough time to put the points back into use (not holding acct!) If this reservation doesn't work out for you, many people will want to book a weekend in October during Food & Wine Festival.
