Today is our Nassau day and I'm the first one awake. Our stateroom, 8586, is right below Beach Blanket Buffet, so I went up and got coffee for myself and DH. It is a gorgeous day, so we have coffee on the verandah until the kids wake up so we can go to breakfast.

Last night Marjan had recommended having breakfast at Triton, which is what I wanted to do so we weren't docking in Nassau for quite a while, but 12yo DS adamently wants to go to the buffet. Rather than argue, we agree. Big mistake. Maybe it's just me, but I think their eggs are inedible. Some people are wine connosseurs, me, I'm a scrambled eggs connosseur. Both kids ate about 1/2 pound of bacon apiece, I ate the sausage gravy (cold) over a muffin, and DH cleaned his plate.

We had decided to do our own "excursion" and took a taxi to Cable Beach. The Nassau dock area has improved considerably since our last cruise. We shared a taxi with a family who was on a Carnival cruise. They "ooohed" when we told them we were on the Wonder. Our taxi driver was very talkative and informative. He dropped us at the front door of the Wyndham, and sure enough, just as was stated on the Cruise Line Boards, we walked right through the casino and onto the beach.

What we weren't prepared for were all the teenagers who had taken over the Wyndham! We were lucky to find one chair on the beach. The kids swam in the ocean for about an hour. The beach is nice, no where near as nice as Castaway Cay though. But after winter in PA, this beach in the Bahamas on a sunny day will do, teens or no teens. Then we went to the pool, and luckily found the last two chairs. At about 12:30, the boys asked "When's lunch?" and my reply was "Lunch is when we get back to the ship because that's where it's already paid for!". We found another family to give our chairs to, who informed us that these were not college kids but high school grads - gambling and drinking age in the Bahamas is 18. It was a good way to spend a morning, and for a total of $40. in cab fare, definately worth it.

Lunch at Beach Blanket Buffet is far superior to breakfast. This was the All American Buffet day with things like Philly cheesesteaks, fried chicken, baked ham. Alot more for 10 yo DS to eat. At about 2:00 the kids went to the kids club and DH and I hit the adult pool and hot tub, which were great. Later we left the ship again to do some shopping while the kids were in the lab. Since it's our anniversary on Wednesday, I considered it a good thing that DH wanted to go shopping. We picked up 2 bottles of Bacardi, two cigars which probably were NOT Cuban, and then DH suggests looking at some tanzanite in the jewelry stores. Lucky me got a tanzanite ring for our anniversary!

We did a better job lasting until 8:30 for dinner tonight since we'd had a late lunch. First before dinner we all saw Golden Mickey's. I love that show and so does my 10 yo. I was afraid 12 yo DS would consider it too babyish, but he likes it as well. I always get a lump in my throat at the end, but that's just the Disney nut in me I guess.

Dinner was in Annimator's Palace. We missed AP last cruise because we ate at Palo, and it was only a 3-Night. That show in AP is another lump-in-throat giver to me. DH and I had the beef again (I guess we ate too much fish and chicken while dieting for this trip). 12yo did order a salad and the Roasted chicken from the adult menu, but 10 yo stuck with his chicken nuggets. Afterward, the kids went back to the lab, and DH and I went to Wavebands again for 80's Night. We actually got tired tonight before the kids - we had to pick them up at the Lab because WE were tired and wanted to go to sleep!

Next day - Castaway Cay!

Great trip report! We are leaving in 20 days for a land/sea vacation. I am anxiously awaiting the rest of your report. :flower:

How did your kids like the kids club? My daughter is 9 and I was wondering what their opinions were? Are your kids outgoing? Mine is quiet and reserved. Not one to just start up a conversation with other kids. What were the things they liked to do in there? This is our first disney cruise and the first cruise for her. She is an only child so I am wondering if she would like the club. She says she wants to go but I am thinking after she goes the first time, she won't go again. I figured all she can do is try it. If she doesnt like it, she can be with her fun mom and dad!!!! :love1:
