ANOTHER 21 days in WDW+DXDDP=hundreds of food pics (COMPLETED 3/2!)

Last year I really enjoyed my meal at Narcoossees while DH hated his, so I was hoping he would have better luck this time round.

DH had the Fall Vegetables. Aside from CRT I think this was the worst vegetarian entree he had all trip. It was basically a plate of vegetables, with very little flavour or substance to it. It consisted of Asparagus which was well cooked, baby carrots (nearly raw), tempura squash (very watery and no flavour to the batter) and cauliflower gratin which was nice, cheesy and crunchy topping, well cooked cauliflower, but no real sauce to it. I think this is really poor effort to provide a veggie option, even a plate of pasta in tomato sauce would have been better than this and at least it would have been filling!

Overall I had a very nice meal here, but DH was again let down by a very poor vegetarian entree. I love the location of this restaurant and it was great to watch Hallowishes while eating dessert, but I don't think I'll convince DH to return until the veggie option substantially improves.

I always enjoy dining at Disney restaurants, but I agree that the good veggie entrees as well as entrees that include a balance of veggies as well as meats are harder to come by.(for those of us who are not vegetarian, but just want to eat more than just meat and potatoes:scared1:)

Loving your review! :goodvibes More please!!!

Your DH is not having much luck with his entrees, is he? :(

I really like the sound of your mojito and the spring roll (not the bone though :scared1: ) and your entree sounds lovely.

I love your idea of getting tomorrow's breakfast with your snack credits. I love sweets for breakfast and there are so many to try I'm just too full during the day usually after heavy meals. We will definitely try this next time.

Thanks for sharing!

I think that I;ll have to try that halibut at Narcoossee's. I've been looking and trying to choose, but that looks like what I want. Thanks!

Don't know about the app, but at least I have the entre (halibut) and dessert (cheesecake) decided.

I'm not a vegetarian, but I can't believe a signature restaurant can get away with giving your DH that "entree!" A plate of vegetables is not a meal, especially when you are paying the hefty price of the DXDDP!! I hope his meals get better!

:cool1::cool1::cool1:

Your review so far is so great and can't wait for more.

Your DH in one of the pictures had a red t-shirt on that was the NorthWestern Boat. Do you watch The Deadliest Catch tv program??? or is that a souvenier from somewhere? I love Sig and the Hansen brothers and wish I was a WDW when they were there!!!!!

Was a follower of yours last time and just happened to see this today! :thumbsup2

Read it all to catch up and can't wait for the next installment! :)

Normally we have great luck in disney restaurants with veggie meals, but DH just had few poor meals this time round, with Narcoosees definitely being on of the worst!

He's certainly had bad luck at the beginning of our trip, but luckily it got much better and he had some really good veggie meals.

The mojito was really good, I really enjoyed my entire meal there, it was just a shame DH's entree was so poor.

Oooooh....how I loved those onion rings at Sci Fi. :worship:

DH really seemed to like them too as he polished them all off!

Honestly if we hadn't used our snack credits for breakfast, I think we would have left them unused. We were so full from our meals, it was the only time we could even consider eating snacks for most of the trip!

I think that I;ll have to try that halibut at Narcoossee's. I've been looking and trying to choose, but that looks like what I want. Thanks!

The halibut is a really nice dish, and the cheesecake is sublime, hope you enjoy them!

It really was a poor attempt by Narcoosees, I guess the chef isn't a big fan of vegetarian dining. The good news is his meals did get much better!

I am loving all of your reviews. Keep them coming!!!

Thank you very much.

Thank you. I don't watch Deadliest Catch but DH loves it. He bought the t-shirt from the Norway Pavillion when we were in WDW last year as it's one of his favourite programs. He even got himself a deadliest catch mug too! I'm sure if we were ever at WDW while the Hansen brothers were there, he'd have us queuing for hours to meet them!

Thank you very much. I'm being a bit slow with the updates lately as I'm having to travel a lot with work at the minute, and I'm just exhausted when I get back home. I should definitely get the next update done by Thursday though.

Hey! I'm loving your reviews!! I am a vegetarian so I enjoy seeing things I've tried in the past or want to try in the future in here. I cannot believe the veggie option at Narcoossee's!! OMG - You've got to be kidding me!!! Hopefully the rest of the dishes he got throughout the trip make up for it. Keep em coming!

Thank you very much. Narcoossees was really poor, but DH definitely had some better meals later in the trip.

Breakfast today was part of the cupcakes we got yesterday from Starring Rolls. A very sweet and unheathly breakfast, but we were on holiday!

We spent the morning in Animal Kingdom, and we had an 11:30 reservation at Tusker House. We both really enjoyed this restaurant last time, so we were looking forward to another good meal.

We went to check in around 11:20 and the queue was absolutely huge! All the cms were requesting that only 1 person wait in line so I found a table to wait at. There were people without reservations (they were taking walk ups) and people with much later reservations checking in which was why the queue was so large.

When DH finally got us checked in we only had to wait a couple of minutes before we were seated. Last time we dined here we also arrived at opening and the restaurant was very quiet. This time there were still lots of parties finishing breakfast and it seemed really loud, partly due to the large party sitting near us who were letting their children run round and round the restaurant. I always think it's rude to let your kids run round any restaurant but at a buffet where tons of people are walking about carrying hot plates of food you're just asking for trouble.

Our waiter greeted us quickly and offered us soft drinks, so we headed straight up to the buffet which was relatively empty.

On my first plate I had potato wedges (nicely seasoned, but still a little hard in the centre), salmon topped with tomato (flavourful and well cooked), mealie cornbread (good but a little coarse in texture), cous cous salad (very nice), rice (a little bland), chicken curry (very good, creamy tomato base with a little kick) and some corn dog nuggets (we don't get these in England so always grab them when available in the US.)
Tusker1.jpg

My second plate consisted of more chicken curry and rice, cucumber salad (ok), some sort of walnut bread which was tasty but very sweet, mashed potato (good, creamy and buttery), tabbouleh (very good), curry flavour rice (very good, fruity and spicy) and more corn dogs.
tusker3.jpg

There are tons of veggie options here, so DH had plenty of choice. On his first plate he had two types of bread (cornbread and a lemon flavoured bread he said was good), jolif rice (very nice), salad with tomato, apple and blue cheese which he really liked, potato wedges, mashed potato, pearl barley, chickpea and cabbage dish (very good) and marinated tofu (very good, nice and spicy).
tusker2.jpg

For his second plate he had some more of the tofu, rice, more apple and blue cheese salad (this was his favourite dish) and a vegetable samosa which was very good, crispy filo pastry, spicy potato and pea filling.
tusker4.jpg

For dessert I had the banana bread pudding with vanilla sauce. This was very good, dense, soft pudding, plenty of banana slices, and nice cinnamon flavour. I also had a try of the fruit pie (good, crisp pastry and crunchy sugar topping, soft apples and sweet fruit sauce) and baklava (a little dry, I only had a bite out of it).
tusker_des.jpg

Dh tried a pecan and chocolate tart (tasty but not enough pecans), coconut macaroons (very good, plenty of coconut flavour, soft texture), carrot cake (really soft and well flavoured), and some bread pudding which he also thought was excellent.
tusker_des2.jpg

Overall we both really enjoyed the food here. There was a large selection for vegetarians, all the food was fresh and hot, and we'd definitely return.

Coming up next - Citricos.

For dinner that night we had a 7:30 reservation at Citricos. In the past this has definitely been DH's favourite restaurant so I was really hoping he'd enjoy his meal here tonight.

We arrived about 10 minutes early but we were seated very quickly. The restaurant seemed much busier than on previous visits, and a lot louder but it was still a nice atmosphere.

Our waitress here was excellent, definitely the best service of the trip. She was friendly, efficient, knowledgeable about the menu and she never kept us waiting for anything.

To drink I had a Citricos Bellini, this was a tasty cocktail, a good peach flavour but not too sweet.
Cit_bellini.jpg

For an appetiser I had the Gateau of crab. I first tried this a couple of years ago and thought it was excellent, luckily it was still just as tasty this time round. Huge pieces of fresh crab, surrounded by a creamy, fennel and orange flavoured sauce. The fennel is quite mild and certainly doesn't overpower the crab flavours at all, the tomato fennel slaw on top provides a good contrasting texture, a truly excellent dish.
cit_crab.jpg

DH decided to go with the Goats cheese truffles. 3 pieces of goats cheese rolled in tomato, cracked pepper, and sesame seeds, served on an arugula salad. Normally it comes with bacon but DH asked our waitress to omit it, which was no problem. The goats cheese was very fresh and incredibly tasty, the tomato one was DH's favourite and the sesame seed one his least favourite. The sesame seeds did overpower the goats cheese and he's not a huge fan of sesame seeds anyway. Overall a tasty, well presented dish, only criticism would be the salad could have used a little more dressing.

For my entree I chose the salmon fillet, served with fingerling potatoes, sprouts, bacon and a light mustard sauce. Apparantly this was a new dish, just added to the menu that night but it was very good. The salmon was perfectly cooked (medium rare) and incredibly tasty. The potatoes were good although one was slightly undercooked, the sauce was spicy at all but did have a good mustard flavour, and was thick and silky in texture. The sprouts were tasty but there were only a few on the plate, overall a really good, well balanced dish. I had the recommended wine pairing with this dish, a Marlbrough Savignon Blanc which was very good, and went well with the salmon.

DH had the Seared Tofu served with Angel Hair Pasta, Zucchinni, Eggplant, Tomatoes, Mushrooms, Lentils, and Sun-dried Tomato Coulis. This has been Citricos veggie option for years, but they have changed the presentation of it from last year. The tofu was good, two big pieces of it were on the plate, it was well cooked but could have done with a little more marinade. It sat on a bed of sundried tomato sauce which had a really good flavour to it.
The pasta was nicely cooked, and the lentils, courgette and spinach went really well with the tofu, making it a good, well balanced vegetarian dish, and a huge improvement after Narcoossees.

I was pretty full by the time it came to dessert so thought I'd choose a light option, Angel food cake with berries, honey and cointreau sauce. This was very nice, the cake was incredibly light, and the sharp berries and thick sweet cream complimented each other perfectly. A very good, light dessert, perfect after a big meal.

DH had the tiramisu, which is one of his favourite desserts back home. He said this one was good, nice and creamy with a strong coffee flavour, the chocolate coffee beans were tasty but it only had a slight alcohol flavour.
Cit_tiramisu.jpg

Overall we both had an excellent meal here, good quality food, excellent service and we were able to see Wishes from our table which was nice (although it's not the same without the music). This is still DH's favourite restaurant in WDW and it's in my top 2, definitely worth a visit if you haven't been yet.

Your day 6 looks like some amazing food. Now I am wishing I was eating at both Tusker House and Citricos on our next trip. Both of these places I didn't have much interest in until now. Sadly there is too much food and too little time. :sad2:

I'm so glad to see your review of Tusker House - we are going to eat there in February and my friend isn't the most adventurous eater, but I see plenty of things on your plates that she will eat! (I eat everything so it's never an issue if I'll find something to eat.) :rotfl:

Thanks so much for all of your reviews, they are really helpful and your photos are fantastic!

I'm not a vegetarian, but I do eat veggie meals on occasion. I would be extremely frustrated that I couldn't get a good meal at the Signature restaurants. Being meat free isn't a new concept. It boggles my mind. Tusker House sounds yummy.
