I wish they'd just drop the ticket requirement for everyone. I mean, whether you have an AP (as I've had in the past), or a 10-day no expiration park hopper (as I do now), or even no ticket at all - If you're buying the dining plan for every night of your reservation, then you have to be on Disney property to eat it.
I mean, how many people would buy the dining plan for a 5-night trip and then go to Universal for 2 days of it? And even if you did, then Disney would be making money on food you don't eat.
I just don't see how requiring a ticket of anyone, AP or otherwise, makes financial sense to them. The fewer restrictions they have, the more people will partake. They even should offer a dining plan (maybe charge a few dollars more) for people staying offsite. I'd bet that anyone with a dining plan would be far more likely to spend all their time on Disney property - making it a winning proposition for anyone they sell to.
