Annual Passholder Discount Question

Both my DH and I are Annual Passholders (AP). We are taking our four daughters to Disneyworld for 7 days in October. I have a list of all the restaurants that offer AP discounts. On the website for Annual Passholders it states that the 10% Discount at qualifying restaurants is for the Annual Passholder and up to 3 guests. Since both of us are Annual Passholders will that qualify us to get the 10% discount for all of us? Or will the restaurant claim that since we are all "one party" that we only qualify for the 10% discount for four of us? Just wondering if anyone else has done this before and if someone could tell me how this issue is handled in the restaurants. Thanks!

I can't answer your question exactly...maybe if you get separate checks?:confused3

But I would suggest getting the Tables in Wonderland card. I believe it's $70 for annual passholders and it's gives you 20% off at restaurants (food AND alcohol!). It's good for a year and up to, I think, 8 people! With a party of 6, it might really be worth it to spend the money with how much you'll save in the long run. :thumbsup2

For clarification purposes only, the Tables in Wonderland card costs $75 for annual passholders. It often will add a "13th month" depending on when you purchase. For example, I bought my new card on July 14 of this year, and it expires August 31,2011. It's valid for up to 10 people per membership. It costs $50 to replace it. So don't lose it! I think it's the same price for a spouse to get a card on that membership. I don't think it's worth it. Only valid for the person whose name is on the card.

You do get food and beverages (including alcoholic beverages) covered for the 20% discount, but for table service you also have an automatic 18% gratuity (20% at Victoria and Albert's). Parties of 6 or greater also have an 18% gratuity added. (Since no tipping discussion is allowed on this board UNLESS it's on the official sticky thread at the top of this page, please go read the FAQ if you have any questions. I am posting just for informational purposes only.)

You'll find that if you spend $375 for table service meals, you've broken even for the cost of the Tables in Wonderland card. There's a true savings if you spend more than that at meals. And you can get the discount at counter service (no gratuity added) at food courts at the value resorts, Port Orleans French Quarter, and Animal Kingdom park restaurants Pizzafari, Flame Tree BBQ, and Restaurantosaurus.

Cheshire Figment posted a calculation that people would save $21.30 for every $100 spent on meals, factoring in tax and gratuities added. Hope that helps. Here's a list of Cheshire Figment's calculations. Asterisks (*) are spacing placeholders, not footnotes.

Cheshire Figment's calculation:
100.00 - Original Amount
*20.00 - Discount
*80.00 - Subtotal
*18.00 - Gratuity Added based on $100
**5.20 - Sales Tax on $80
103.20 - Final amount charged, takes into consideration discount, gratuity and tax.

Without TiW Discount (and still figuring 18% Gratuity)

100.00 - Amount of Bill
*18.00 - Gratuity
**6.50 - Sales Tax on $100
124.50 - Total

$21.30 - Savings using TiW Card.

We already have the Tables in Wonderland card but it is not accepted at some of the restaurants we have booked dinner reservations at. Thanks for the advice though. Perhaps I can get the phone number to one of the restaurants and make a call directly to them to find out the answer.

Would you mind sharing which restaurants it isn't taken at?? Would just like to know for future referance.

I know that AP discount isn't good for a lot of dinner time meals. It's a better deal for lunch.

That's what I'd like to know...which restaurants have you booked dinner at that won't take TIW? I'm going to take a guess and say one is Yak & Yeti, because that's the only one I can think of that won't take TIW, and also offers an AP discount for dinner (on entrees only). If you're thinking Teppan Edo, the AP discount there is good only at lunch on weekdays.

The only place I can think of that offers AP discount & NOT a TiW discount is Teppan Edo. AND the 10% is only offered at lunch, Mon-Fri.

We have booked dinner one night at the T-Rex Restaurant in Downtown Disney and dinner one night at the Rainforest cafe in the Animal Kingdom and, unless the booklet I received with my Tables In Wonderland Card is wrong, neither restaurant accepts the TIW Card. I know the TIW Card is accepted at ALOT of other restaurants but these two restaurants are ones my 4 daughters really want to eat at. Even though they don't accept TIW, both restaurants do offer a 10% discount to Annual Passholders and up to 3 guests which is why I was trying to find out if the fact that both my husband and I are Annual Passholders, can we qualify to get the 10% discount for all 6 of us.

Makes total sense now!

Have you signed up for the Rainforest Cafe Safari club? We have a Rainforest cafe by us and signed up there. We get emails with discounts quite often. We couldn't use our TIW card at T-Rex but we were able to get a discount using an e-mail coupon. :thumbsup2

Maybe see if there's a way you can sign up online.

(I know I'm still not answering your question but that's just another possibility in case the answer is not favorable to your situation. :goodvibes)
