I am looking to take my niece to Disney World in a few months. We both have the Premium Disneyland AP’s. I was thinking that we’ll probably just upgrade our passes to the premier and book a hotel with the AP discount, adding on the dining plan.

I want to jump on this quick, but here’s my dilemma… I will be paying for my own AP upgrade. My sister will be paying for my niece’s, but probably won’t be able to do so for another month or so. Since I am paying for the WDW reservations, is my AP info all that is necessary to book? Do they need my niece’s AP info at any point, for the sake of the dining plan? If so, at what point does Disney need that info?

Has anyone ever done the AP dining plan before? I would love to hear your experience with it.

To qualify for the ticketless room with Dining pkg. all you need is one adult to have an AP.

If you are planning on staying at a value resort, the Free Dining offer if available for your dates might work out cheaper. Is your niece a Disney adult (10 and up)? You would however have to purchase 2-day park tickets each to qualify for Free Dining. You can also pay the difference and upgrade to the dining plan of your choice.

You don't even have to have the AP in hand when you make the reservations. I'm going to upgrade a 7 day hopper to an AP, but I can make the AP reservation now.

Also, you don't even have to have the AP until you check-in at your resort. So...it is possible you could do the Free Dining package and use the 2-day tix towards the upgrade to Premier APs. Whatever AP rate you go with, though, you don't need the physical pass until check-in.

The age thing didn't occur to me. She's 9 right now, and will be when I book, but she turns 10 mid-October. Jeez, how does the affect things?
I've done the dining plan before with kids. I know the Adult plan is overkill for her. The kids dining plan suits her perfectly.

Dining Plans go with the age when they arrive. If she will be 10 then you need to book the adult plan.

You could pay out of pocket at the non-buffet and family style TS and then keep the credit for another meal. The two of you could get a few more TS meals in doing this.
